Klap alternatives, compared

Klap turns a YouTube link into vertical clips, and it counts every clip it makes. If you post a lot, or clip long videos, paying by the clip adds up. Here are the ten tools people weigh instead, most of them priced by the minute of video, with prices from their own sites. We make the first one.

Why people switch from Klap

Klap sells clips: 100 clips a month on Basic, for $29 a month or $14 billed yearly. Every clip it makes comes out of that, whether you post it or not. Most of the tools here charge for the minutes of video you bring in instead, however many clips come out of it.

When we checked, Klap's pricing page was also showing some visitors other prices and other units, so what you see may differ from what we saw. And its docs put paid plans' limit at 3 hours a video, which leaves out the longest streams and podcasts.

Our pick: an AI clipping tool built for clippers

Clyper

Yes, we make it, so of course it's first. We'd put it there anyway: it charges for the video, not each clip, starts at $20 a month and takes videos up to 4 hours. Paste a link and get up to 30 clips that start and end on whole sentences, framed, captioned and ranked.

Best for

  • Paying for minutes of video, not clips: a one-hour podcast is 60 credits, for as many clips as you choose, up to 30.
  • Videos up to 4 hours, where Klap's docs list 3 on its paid plans.
  • A cheaper start month to month: Starter is $20, against $29 for Klap's Basic.

Good to know

  • Klap does more around the clip: B-roll, a brand kit, 4K exports, scheduling to five apps and an API.
  • There's no free video to try; Starter is $20 month to month.

  • Billed yearly, Pro comes to $0.0483 a minute, against $0.0475 on Clyper Pro.

How to choose

  1. Whose videos you clip. If it's other creators' YouTube videos, for campaigns, you need a tool that takes any public link. That narrows it fast.
  2. How much you'll clip. Work out the hours of video a month, then compare the price per minute, not the price per plan.
  3. How much you want to edit. Clips ready to post, or an editor to finish them in. Every step you add, you repeat on every clip.
  4. Try it on a real video. Use a free plan where there is one, or a month of the smallest plan, on the kind of video you'll actually clip.

Every tool, side by side: AI clipping tools compared. Clipping more than you can watch? Studio takes 10 links at once.

Questions

What is the best Klap alternative?

For clippers, Clyper: it charges per minute of video rather than per clip, starts at $20 a month and takes videos up to 4 hours, with clips cut to whole sentences and ready to post. For the lowest price per minute, 2short.ai; for a free plan, Vizard or OpusClip.

Is there a free alternative to Klap?

OpusClip has a free plan (60 minutes a month, with a watermark, and clips that can't be exported after 3 days); Vizard has a free plan (60 minutes a month at 720p, with a watermark); quso.ai has a free plan in some countries (75 minutes a month at 720p, with a watermark); Spikes Studio has a free plan (demo clips, and up to 30 minutes of video a month by its FAQ, at 720p with a watermark); 2short.ai has a free plan (30 minutes a month); Submagic has a free trial (3 short videos, with a watermark); StreamLadder has a free clip editor (with a 7-day trial of its AI clipping); Descript has a free plan (1 hour of media at 720p, with a watermark); CapCut has a free editor (if you cut each clip by hand). Clyper has no free plan; Starter is $20 month to month, so a month is enough to try it on your own videos.

Which Klap alternative is cheapest?

It depends how many clips you take, since Klap prices by the clip and most others by the minute. Of the tools that charge by the minute, 2short.ai costs least ($0.0166 on Premium, month to month), then Vizard's yearly Creator at $0.0242. Descript's media hours come to less, $0.0133 a minute on its yearly Creator plan, but they're hours in its editor, for files you upload rather than links, and its AI features use AI credits on top. Month to month, Clyper Starter is $20 for 150 minutes, up to 75 clips, against $29 for 100 clips a month on Klap's Basic.

Why do people switch from Klap?

Mostly the pricing: Klap counts every clip, and when we checked its pricing page was trying other prices and units on some visitors. Then length: its docs put paid plans' limit at 3 hours a video.

Does Klap charge per clip?

Yes. Its plans are clips a month: 100 clips a month on Basic, 300 clips a month on Pro and 1,000 clips a month on Pro+ (it was testing other units when we checked). Clyper charges a credit per minute of video instead, however many clips you take.

Which Klap alternatives take YouTube links?

Clyper, Vizard, Spikes Studio, 2short.ai and quso.ai take YouTube links. Submagic does with its Magic Clips add-on. OpusClip does once you confirm the YouTube channel is yours. StreamLadder's AI clipping takes Twitch and Kick links, and YouTube videos as uploaded files. CapCut and Descript work from uploaded files.

Pay for the video, not each clip
