YouTube thumbnail downloader

Paste a YouTube link and get the video's thumbnail in every size YouTube keeps, up to HD 1280 × 720. Preview it, then download it or copy its link.

How to download a YouTube thumbnail

  1. Copy the video's link from the address bar, or from Share in the YouTube app. Watch, youtu.be, Shorts and live links all work.
  2. Paste it and press Get thumbnails.
  3. Download the size you want, or copy its link.

What clippers use thumbnails for

Studying what works. The thumbnails of a creator's most-watched videos show which moments, faces and words pulled people in. The same moments often make the best clips.

Planning a campaign. Keeping the thumbnails of the videos you're clipping makes it easy to see your queue at a glance and match each clip to its video.

A cover for a Short. Shorts, TikToks and reels use a vertical cover, not the video's 16:9 thumbnail. Make one from a frame of your clip with the Shorts thumbnail maker, and a 16:9 one for a video of your own with the YouTube thumbnail maker.

From a thumbnail to clips

The link you just pasted is everything Clyper needs. It goes through the whole video, finds the moments worth posting, frames each one vertically on whoever's talking and captions every word, so you have clips ready for TikTok, Reels and Shorts in minutes instead of an afternoon of editing.

Questions

How do I download a YouTube thumbnail?

Paste the video's link and press Get thumbnails. You'll see every size the video has, the largest first. Press Download to save one as a JPG, or Copy link to share it.

What sizes are there?

YouTube keeps up to five: HD (1280 × 720), SD (640 × 480), High (480 × 360), Medium (320 × 180) and Small (120 × 90). Every video has the three smallest. HD and SD exist when the video was uploaded large enough, which is most videos from recent years.

Why is there no HD thumbnail?

YouTube makes the HD size only from videos or custom thumbnails that are large enough. Older and low-resolution videos have High (480 × 360) as their largest.

Does it work for Shorts and livestreams?

Yes. Paste a Shorts link (youtube.com/shorts/...) or a livestream's link and you get its thumbnails the same way.

Can I use someone else's thumbnail?

A thumbnail belongs to the video's creator, like the video. Saving one to look at, study or reference is common; using it in your own content or ads needs their permission.

Is it free?

Yes, with nothing to sign up for. The images come straight from YouTube to your browser.

Make clips from the same link
