Kapwing alternatives for clips, compared

Kapwing is a full video editor in the browser, and its AI clip maker turns a long video into clips you finish in that editor. If clips are all you're after, or your videos run longer than its links take, here are the twelve tools people weigh instead for clips, with prices from their own sites. We make the first one, and we'll say why it's first.

Why people switch from Kapwing

Kapwing's clip maker is one tool in a full editor. By default, its help center says, it suggests 3 to 5 clips from a video at least 10 minutes long; you prompt it for other topics, longer or shorter clips or another shape, then finish them in its studio. That's the right amount of control if you edit anyway, and a stop between every link and every post if you don't.

Then the limits. Its help center limits links to 120 minutes, so a longer podcast or stream has to be downloaded and uploaded as a file. Its AI credits pay for all its AI tools, subtitles and dubbing included, so what's left for clips depends on what else you use, and the free plan has 10 credits in all. Per minute of clipping it's good value, though: $0.0320 on Pro billed yearly, if the credits go to nothing else.

Our pick: an AI clipping tool built for clippers

Clyper

Yes, we make it, so of course it's first. Kapwing costs less per minute of clipping, and we won't pretend otherwise. Clyper is the pick when what you want is clips, not a project: paste a link up to 4 hours long and get up to 30 clips, each cut to whole sentences, framed on whoever's talking, captioned and scored, with no editor to open.

Best for

  • YouTube links up to 4 hours long, where Kapwing's are limited to 120 minutes, and 10 links at once on Studio.
  • Clips you can post as they come: cut to whole sentences, framed on whoever's talking, captioned in 50+ languages, with a hook score on each.
  • A cheaper start month to month: Starter is $20, against $24 a member for Kapwing Pro, and every minute goes to clips.

Good to know

  • Kapwing costs less per minute of clipping: $0.0320 on Pro billed yearly, against $0.0475 on Clyper Pro, if its credits go to nothing else.
  • It isn't an editor: no timeline, B-roll or dubbing. Its MP4s open in Kapwing when you want those.
  • There's no free plan; Starter is $20 month to month.

How to choose

  1. Whose videos you clip. If it's other creators' YouTube videos, for campaigns, you need a tool that takes any public link. That narrows it fast.
  2. How much you'll clip. Work out the hours of video a month, then compare the price per minute, not the price per plan.
  3. How much you want to edit. Clips ready to post, or an editor to finish them in. Every step you add, you repeat on every clip.
  4. Try it on a real video. Use a free plan where there is one, or a month of the smallest plan, on the kind of video you'll actually clip.

Every tool, side by side: the best AI clipping tools, compared. Clipping more than you can watch? Studio takes 10 links at once.
