Clyper vs VEED

VEED is a full video editor in the browser, and its Clips tool turns a video you upload into short clips. Clyper is built for clippers. Paste any YouTube link up to 4 hours long and get vertical clips cut to whole sentences, framed on whoever's talking, captioned word by word and scored, ready to post with no editor to open.

Our take

We make Clyper, so this is our case for it. What we say about VEED comes from its own pricing page and help center, linked at the bottom.

If you clip other creators' YouTube videos, we'd pick Clyper. VEED's help center says its Clips tool doesn't import YouTube links: you download the video with a different service and upload the file. In Clyper you paste the link, up to 4 hours long, and the clips come back cut to whole sentences, framed, captioned and scored.

Keep VEED if you edit and make whole videos, with its avatars, dubbing and AI video. The two work well together: Clyper for the clips, VEED for anything you want to build around them.

Why clippers pick Clyper over VEED

  1. Paste the link, skip the download

VEED's help center says Clips can't bring in a YouTube video by its link: you use a different service to download it, then upload the file. Clyper takes any public or unlisted YouTube link, and Clyper Studio takes 10 links at once, so a campaign video goes from link to clips without a file on your computer.

Clipping someone else's video still needs their permission, which clipping campaigns give.

  2. Long podcasts and streams, up to 4 hours

VEED sets Clips' limits by speech: at least 1 minute and at most 3 hours of it in the video. Clyper takes videos from a minute to 4 hours long, by link or as an upload (MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV, up to 4 GB), so a podcast that talks for more than 3 hours goes in whole. A stream replay gets its webcam stacked over the game.

  3. Nothing to set up first

Before VEED's Clips runs, its help center has you set the language spoken, portrait or landscape, a goal for the clips, a subtitle style and the longest a clip can be. On Clyper you paste the link and, if you like, choose how many clips you want, up to 30 a video, or leave it on Auto. Each clip runs 20 to 60 seconds, starts and ends on a whole sentence, follows whoever's talking and cuts to the other person when they answer. If one needs a nudge, trim it, extend either end by up to 15 seconds or fix a word.

  4. Cheaper to start, month to month

Clyper Starter is $20 a month for 150 minutes of video, up to 75 clips, with no yearly commitment. VEED's first paid plan, Creator, is $25 a month for each editor, billed monthly. Every Clyper clip is a 1080 × 1920 MP4 with no watermark, captioned word by word in 50+ languages in animated styles placed clear of every app's buttons (all 5 on Clyper Pro and Studio), with a hook score so you know which to post first.

What it costs

VEED sells a subscription for each editor: every person in a workspace counts as a seat. Creator is $25 a month, or $12.25 billed yearly ($147); Pro is $45, or $22.08 billed yearly ($265); Studio is $79, or $38.75 billed yearly ($465). Its help center gives every paid plan unlimited use of Clips, and each plan's AI credits pay for its generation tools, like AI video, images and voices. The free plan lets you try Clips once, with a watermark.

Clyper sells minutes of video for clips: Starter is 150 minutes for $20 a month, up to 75 clips; Pro is 400 minutes, up to 200 clips, for $38, or $19 billed yearly. Month to month, Clyper costs less to start, $20 against $25. Billed yearly, VEED Creator costs less than any Clyper plan. What Clyper's price buys is clips straight from a YouTube link, ready to post.

Where VEED does more

VEED is a full editor, and it does far more than clips. It edits on a timeline or through the script, removes filler words and silences, adds B-roll, translates subtitles and dubs speech, and generates video, images, voices and AI avatars. It records your screen and camera, keeps brand kits, shares videos by link with comments, and has apps for iOS and Android. Its Clips come in landscape as well as portrait, caption 100+ languages and export up to 4K on Pro, and there's a free plan.

Clyper doesn't try to be an editor. Its clips are 1080 × 1920 MP4s with no watermark, so they open in VEED like any other video when you want to finish some of them there.

Clyper for the clips, VEED for the rest

  1. Clip in Clyper. Paste the YouTube link and get up to 30 clips, captioned and scored. Starter is $20 a month, and you can cancel whenever you like.
  2. Finish the ones that need it in VEED. Upload the MP4s to add B-roll, a dub or your brand kit.
  3. Post the rest as they are. For what makes a clip worth posting, see how to make viral clips.

Questions

Is Clyper better than VEED for clips?

For clipping YouTube videos, we think so: paste any public link up to 4 hours long and the clips come back cut to whole sentences, framed on whoever's talking, captioned word by word and scored, ready to post. VEED is the better tool if you also edit and make whole videos.

Can VEED make clips from a YouTube video?

Not from its link, its help center says: the Clips tool doesn't import YouTube videos, so you download the video with a different service and upload the file. Clips needs at least 1 minute and at most 3 hours of speech. Clyper takes any public or unlisted YouTube link up to 4 hours long.

How much does VEED cost?

Creator is $25 a month, or $12.25 billed yearly; Pro is $45, or $22.08 billed yearly; Studio is $79, or $38.75 billed yearly. Prices are per editor: every person in a workspace counts as a seat. Its free plan lets you try Clips once, at 720p with a watermark.

Does VEED add a watermark?

On its free plan, yes: its help center says videos exported from a free account carry a VEED watermark, and paid plans export without one. Clyper has no watermark on any plan.

Which is better for clipping campaigns?

Clyper. It's built for them: it takes any public YouTube link with nothing to download, cuts clips that stand on their own, captions them clear of every app's buttons and scores their hooks, and Studio takes 10 links at once.

Does Clyper have a free plan?

No. Starter is $20 a month, billed monthly, so a month is enough to see what it makes of your videos. VEED's free plan lets you try its Clips once, with a watermark.
