Clyper vs Munch

Munch is now Munch Studio, an AI social media manager for businesses: it writes posts, designs carousels, schedules them, and clips your long videos as one part of that. Clyper is built for clippers and only makes clips. Paste any YouTube link and get up to 30 clips cut to whole sentences, framed on whoever's talking and captioned, from $20 a month.

Our take

We make Clyper, so this is our case for it. What we say about Munch comes from its own site and help center, linked at the bottom.

If you clip for campaigns, we'd pick Clyper. Munch Studio is built for businesses running their own social accounts: it learns your brand from your website, writes and designs posts, and clips your webinars and podcasts alongside them. Its own FAQ says you can use it just for clipping, though you'll pay for the full social media manager. Clyper is only clips: paste any public YouTube link, and they come back cut to whole sentences, framed, captioned in 50+ languages and scored for their hooks.

It costs less to start, too. Clyper Starter is $20 a month; Munch's smallest plan, Essential, is $68 month to month, or $38 a month billed yearly.

Why clippers pick Clyper over Munch

  1. Made for clipping other creators' videos

Munch Studio is made for businesses posting their own content. Its pages talk about webinars, podcasts and Zoom recordings, brought in by link or upload, and its help center asks that the video be public; they don't say which sites its links take. Clyper takes any public or unlisted YouTube link, from a minute to 4 hours long, and Clyper Studio takes 10 links at once.

You still need permission to post clips of another creator's video, which clipping campaigns give.

  2. You choose how many clips, each cut to whole sentences

In Munch you pick up to two platforms and a clip length, or leave the length to it, and its pages don't say how many clips you get. On Clyper you choose how many you want, up to 30 a video, or leave it on Auto. Each runs 20 to 60 seconds, starts and ends on a whole sentence, follows whoever's talking and cuts to the other person when they answer; a stream gets its webcam stacked over the game.

  3. Captions in 50+ languages, and a hook score on every clip

Munch's help center lists English, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Russian for Munch Studio. Clyper captions 50+, word by word, in 5 animated styles placed clear of every app's buttons. Munch rates each clip on coherence, how well it stands on its own; Clyper cuts every clip on whole sentences and gives each a hook score, so you know which to post first. If one needs a nudge, trim it, extend either end by up to 15 seconds or fix a word.

  4. Cheaper to start, and you pay only for clips

Clyper Starter is $20 a month for 150 minutes of video, up to 75 clips, with no yearly commitment. Munch's Essential is $68 a month, or $38 billed yearly, for 500 minutes, and the same plan also pays for posts, carousels, scripts and scheduling. Billed yearly, a minute of video costs $0.0475 on Clyper Pro, against $0.0760 on Essential and $0.0600 on Premium.

Where Munch does more

Munch Studio does a lot more than clips. It learns your business from your website and brand materials, builds a content strategy, writes posts, designs posters and carousels, generates short voiceover videos from a topic, and schedules everything to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and TikTok from one Planner, with a performance dashboard. Its multi-brand plans give each client a workspace of its own, and every plan starts with a 7-day free trial.

Clyper doesn't run your social accounts. It makes the clips, as 1080 × 1920 MP4s with no watermark, so whatever you post with takes them as they are.

Switching from Munch

  1. Pick a plan. Starter is $20 a month, and you can cancel it whenever you like. Pro and Studio cost less billed yearly.
  2. Clip a video you've clipped in Munch. Paste its YouTube link, or upload the file, and put the two sets of clips side by side.
  3. Post the way you do now. Download the clips, post them and submit them to your campaigns. For what makes a clip worth posting, see how to clip a podcast into short videos.

Questions

Is Clyper better than Munch for clipping?

For clipping, we think so: it's built for it. Paste any public YouTube link up to 4 hours long and the clips come back cut to whole sentences, framed on whoever's talking, captioned in 50+ languages and scored for their hooks. Munch Studio is an AI social media manager for businesses, with clipping as one part of it.

Is Munch the same as Munch Studio?

Yes. Its site says Munch Studio, formerly getmunch, comes from the same company, and getmunch.com now redirects to munchstudio.com. Clipping long videos is still part of it, alongside posts, carousels and scheduling.

Can Munch make clips from a YouTube video?

Its pages say you bring in a long video by link or upload, and its help center asks that the video be public; they don't say which sites its links take. It makes clips for up to two platforms at a time, with subtitles you can edit and a coherence score on each. Clyper takes any public or unlisted YouTube link, up to 4 hours long.

How much does Munch cost?

Essential is $68 a month, or $38 billed yearly, with 500 minutes of video repurposing a month; Premium is $85, or $60 billed yearly, with 1,000. Its multi-brand plans, Studio and Scale, are $148 and $398 a month, or $118 and $318 billed yearly. Its pricing page lists no free plan; every plan starts with a 7-day free trial.

Is Clyper cheaper than Munch?

To start, yes: Clyper Starter is $20 a month, against $68 for Munch's Essential month to month or $38 billed yearly. Billed yearly, Clyper Pro comes to $0.0475 a minute of video, against $0.0760 on Essential and $0.0600 on Premium. Munch's Premium month to month, and its multi-brand plans for agencies, come to less a minute.

Which is better for clipping campaigns?

Clyper. It's built for them: any public YouTube link, up to 30 clips a video cut on whole sentences, captions inside every app's safe zone, a hook score on each, and 10 links at once on Studio.
