Clyper vs Kapwing
Kapwing is a full video editor in the browser, and its AI clip maker pulls clips from a long video when you ask. Clyper is only clips. Paste a YouTube link up to 4 hours long and get vertical clips cut to whole sentences, framed on whoever's talking, captioned and scored, with no editor to open.

Our take
We make Clyper, so this is our case for it. What we say about Kapwing comes from its own pricing page and help center, linked at the bottom.
If clips are the job, we'd pick Clyper. In Kapwing, clipping is one tool inside an editor: you upload the video or paste a link of up to 120 minutes, tell its clip maker what you want if you like, and finish the clips in its studio. In Clyper you paste the link, up to 4 hours long, and the clips come back cut to whole sentences, framed, captioned and scored.
Kapwing is the better buy if you edit as well as clip, or if the price per minute decides it: its clip maker takes 2 credits a minute, so its Pro plan comes to less a minute than Clyper's, billed either way, if the credits go to nothing else.
Why people pick Clyper over Kapwing for clips
Long videos, straight from the link
Kapwing's help center limits videos brought in by a link to 120 minutes; past that, you download the video and upload the file. Clyper takes any public or unlisted YouTube link up to 4 hours long, and Studio takes 10 links at once. Podcasts and streams often run past two hours, so that's a download you skip.
Clipping someone else's video still needs their permission, which clipping campaigns give.
Clips made to post, not to finish
By default, Kapwing's help center says, its clip maker suggests 3 to 5 clips, and you prompt it for other topics, longer or shorter clips or another shape, then refine them in its editor. On Clyper you choose how many clips you want, up to 30 a video, or leave it on Auto. Each runs 20 to 60 seconds, starts and ends on a whole sentence, follows whoever's talking and cuts to the other person when they answer; a stream gets its webcam stacked over the game.
A hook score on every clip
Kapwing's pages don't list a score for its clips. Clyper gives every clip a hook score, so you know which to post first, and captions each one word by word in 50+ languages, in 5 animated styles placed clear of every app's buttons. If a clip needs a nudge, trim it, extend either end by up to 15 seconds or fix a word.
Cheaper to start, and every credit goes to clips
Month to month, Clyper Starter is $20 for 150 minutes of video, up to 75 clips, against $24 a member for Kapwing Pro. On Clyper a credit is a minute of video, whatever the clips; Kapwing's credits also pay for its subtitles, dubbing and other AI tools. Per minute of clipping, though, Kapwing costs less, as the prices below show.

What it costs
Kapwing sells AI credits, for each member of a workspace. Pro is $24 a month, or $16 billed yearly ($192), for 1,000 credits a month; Business is $64, or $50 billed yearly ($600), for 4,000. Its clip maker takes 2 credits a minute of video, so Pro's credits clip up to 500 minutes a month if they go to nothing else; the same credits pay for subtitles, dubbing and its other AI tools.

Where Kapwing does more
Kapwing is a full editor, and it does far more than clips. It edits on a timeline or through the transcript, removes silences with Smart Cut, adds B-roll, subtitles and translations, dubs speech into 40+ languages, generates video and images with AI, and keeps your brand kit and custom fonts. Teams share a workspace, with comments and editing together in real time. It exports up to 4K, takes files up to 6 GB, makes clips in 9:16, 4:5 or 16:9, clips audio-only podcasts too, and has a free plan.
Clyper doesn't try to be an editor. Its clips are 1080 × 1920 MP4s with no watermark, so they open in Kapwing like any other video when you want to finish some of them there.
Clyper for the clips, Kapwing for the finishing
- Clip in Clyper. Paste the YouTube link and get up to 30 clips, captioned and scored. Starter is $20 a month, and you can cancel whenever you like.
- Finish the ones that need it in Kapwing. Upload the MP4s to add B-roll, a dub or your brand's fonts.
- Post the rest as they are. For what makes a clip worth posting, see how to clip a podcast into short videos.
Questions
Is Clyper better than Kapwing for clips?
For clipping, we think so: paste a YouTube link up to 4 hours long and the clips come back cut to whole sentences, framed on whoever's talking, captioned and scored. Kapwing is the better tool if you also edit, and its clip maker costs less per minute if its credits go to nothing else.
Can Kapwing make clips from a YouTube video?
Yes. Its AI clip maker takes an upload or a pasted link, and its help center limits links to 120 minutes. By default it suggests 3 to 5 clips from a video at least 10 minutes long; you can prompt it for topics, longer or shorter clips or another shape, then finish the clips in its editor. It takes 2 credits a minute of video.
How much does Kapwing cost?
Pro is $24 a month, or $16 billed yearly, with 1,000 AI credits a month; Business is $64, or $50 billed yearly, with 4,000. Prices are per member of a workspace. Its free plan has 10 credits, at 720p with a watermark.
Is Kapwing cheaper than Clyper?
Per minute of clipping, yes, if its credits go only to the clip maker: Pro billed yearly comes to $0.0320 a minute, against $0.0475 on Clyper Pro. Month to month, Clyper Starter is the cheaper start, $20 against $24 for Kapwing Pro.
Does Clyper have a free plan?
No. Starter is $20 a month, billed monthly, so a month is enough to see what it makes of your videos. Kapwing has a free plan: 10 credits, at 720p with a watermark.
