Clyper vs Reap

Reap is an AI video editor that clips long videos, dubs them and schedules them, with a free plan to start. Clyper is built for clippers and only makes clips. Paste any YouTube link up to 4 hours long, choose how many clips you want, up to 30, and each comes back cut to whole sentences, framed on whoever's talking, captioned and given a hook score, on every plan.

Our take

We make Clyper, so this is our case for it. What we say about Reap comes from its own site and help center, linked at the bottom.

Reap is a good editor, and it costs less a minute than Clyper. If you clip for campaigns, we'd still pick Clyper, for what you get from each video. You choose how many clips it makes, up to 30, where Reap has no setting for that. Every clip follows whoever's talking and switches when the other person answers, and a stream gets its webcam stacked over the game; Reap's face tracking is in beta, and its gamers page says it works from what's said, not the game.

And every Clyper clip gets a hook score, on every plan, with no watermark on any of them. Reap keeps its virality score for paid plans, and its free plan exports at 720p with a watermark, for non-commercial use under its terms.

Why clippers pick Clyper over Reap

  1. You choose how many clips

Reap has no setting for how many clips you get: its help center says a 30 to 60 minute video typically gives 23 to 32, and asking for a number in a prompt, a feature in private beta, only nudges it. On Clyper you choose, up to one for every 2 minutes of video and 30 in all, or leave it on Auto. Each runs 20 to 60 seconds and starts and ends on a whole sentence.

  2. Framing for podcasts and streams alike

Reap's face tracking is marked beta, with Fill, Fit and Split layouts, and its gamers page says it works from spoken content, that HUD elements “can fall outside a vertical crop” and that silent gameplay is its weak case. Clyper follows whoever's talking, cuts to the other person when they answer, and stacks a stream's webcam over the game.

Clipping someone else's stream or podcast still takes their permission, which clipping campaigns give.

  3. A hook score on every clip, on every plan

Reap gives each clip a virality score on its paid plans. Clyper gives every clip a hook score on every plan, Starter included, so when one video gives you a dozen clips you know which to post first. If one needs a nudge, trim it, extend either end by up to 15 seconds or fix a word.

  4. Videos up to 4 hours, ready for paid work

Reap's help center says its uploads run from 1 minute to 3 hours, and its pages say Kick links aren't supported. Clyper takes any public or unlisted YouTube link up to 4 hours long, or a file up to 4 GB, and Studio takes 10 links at once. There's no free plan, but every plan exports without a watermark, ready for the campaigns that pay you.

What it costs

Reap sells hours of AI clipping a month, counted on the video you bring, however many clips it makes. Creator is up to 10 hours for $16.99 a month, or $9.99 billed yearly ($119.88); Studio is up to 20 hours for $45, or $29 billed yearly ($348). The hours are credits underneath, shared with its other tools: its credit guide charges reframing and editor processing 2 credits a minute, where clipping is 1. Its free plan gives 1 hour a month.

Clyper sells minutes of video for clips and nothing else: Starter is 150 minutes for $20 a month, up to 75 clips; Pro is 400 for $38, or $19 billed yearly. Reap costs less a minute: $0.0167 on Creator billed yearly, or $0.0283 month to month, if its credits go only to clipping, against $0.0475 on Clyper Pro billed yearly. What the minute buys is the difference: clips you choose the number of, each framed, captioned and scored, with no watermark on any plan.

Where Reap does more

Reap does more around the clips. It dubs videos into 80+ languages and translates subtitles, exports transcripts, makes audiograms, adds stock B-roll and AI voiceovers, writes text hooks into a clip's first seconds (in beta), and schedules to YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn from a content calendar. It has 50+ caption presets, 4K exports on Studio, team seats, and an API, CLI and MCP for automating it.

Clyper makes clips, in 5 caption styles or your own on Pro and Studio, with a hook headline on each on Pro and Studio. They download as 1080 × 1920 MP4s with no watermark, for whatever you post with.

Switching from Reap

  1. Pick a plan. Starter is $20 a month, and you can cancel it whenever you like. Pro and Studio cost less billed yearly.
  2. Clip a video you've clipped in Reap. Paste its YouTube link, choose how many clips you want and put the two sets side by side, scores and framing included.
  3. Post the way you do now. Download the clips, post them and submit them to your campaigns. To pick the strongest first, see what a virality score tells you.

Questions

Is Clyper better than Reap for clipping?

For clippers, we think so. You choose how many clips you get, up to 30 a video, each framed on whoever's talking (with a stream's webcam stacked over the game), captioned and given a hook score on every plan. Reap is an AI video editor with clipping, dubbing and scheduling, and it costs less a minute; it has no setting for how many clips you get, and its face tracking is in beta.

Is Reap free?

It has a free plan: up to 1 hour of AI clipping a month, exported at 720p with a watermark, and its terms keep free use to internal, personal, non-commercial purposes. Clyper has no free plan; Starter is $20 month to month, with no watermark, so a month is enough to try it on paid work.

How much does Reap cost?

Creator is $16.99 a month, or $9.99 billed yearly, for up to 10 hours of AI clipping; Studio is $45, or $29 billed yearly, for up to 20 hours, 4K and up to 3 users. The hours are credits shared with its other tools, and Enterprise is priced on request.

Can Reap clip YouTube videos?

Yes: it takes YouTube, Twitch, X and Vimeo links, and uploads from 1 minute to 3 hours. Clyper takes any public or unlisted YouTube link up to 4 hours long, and 10 at once on Studio.

Can I choose how many clips Reap makes?

Not with a setting: its help center says the count depends on the video (23 to 32 from a 30 to 60 minute video, for example), and a number in a prompt, in private beta, only nudges it. On Clyper you choose, up to 30 a video.

Which is better for clipping campaigns?

Clyper. Paste the campaign's YouTube link, choose how many clips you want, and each comes back cut on whole sentences, framed, captioned above every app's username and caption and scored, with no watermark on any plan. Reap's free plan is for non-commercial use under its terms, so campaign work needs one of its paid plans.
