Teleprompter

Paste your script and read it as it scrolls past a line at your pace, big enough to read from across the room. Change the speed as you go, mirror it for prompter glass, or record yourself with your camera while you read. Free, and nothing is uploaded.

How to use the teleprompter

  1. Paste your script. It shows the words and how long they take to read, and stays in this browser if you refresh.
  2. Set the speed and size. Start at 140 words a minute, read a few lines out loud, and adjust.
  3. Pick how you'll use it: mirrored for prompter glass, Pause when I pause to follow your voice, or Record me with my camera to film yourself.
  4. Press Start. After a 3, 2, 1 the text scrolls. Space pauses, the arrow keys change the speed, and Stop ends it.

How many words for a video script

A script's length is set by how fast you talk. This is roughly how many words fill each length at a slow, relaxed and quick pace, before any pauses:

Words in a script for each video length
VideoAt 120 a minuteAt 140 a minuteAt 160 a minute
A 30-second Short60 words70 words80 words
A 1-minute Short or Reel120 words140 words160 words
A 3-minute video360 words420 words480 words
A 10-minute video1,200 words1,400 words1,600 words

So a 840-word script takes about 6 min at 140. Paste yours in to see its time at your speed. For writing it, see how to write a YouTube script and hooks for short videos.

How to read from a teleprompter without looking like it

  • Put the text close to the lens. The farther it is from the camera, the more your eyes move off it. Keep the screen just under or beside the camera, and sit back from it.
  • Make the text big and the lines short. Big text lets you sit farther away, so your eyes move less from side to side.
  • Write the way you talk. Short sentences, everyday words and contractions. Read it out loud once and change any line that trips you up.
  • Let it wait for you. Pause when I pause stops the text when you stop, so you can breathe, smile or say a line again without it running away.
  • Know it well enough to look away. A glance at your notes or a gesture now and then looks natural; reading every word without a break doesn't.

Recording yourself while you read

With Record me with my camera ticked, you see yourself under the text, and recording starts as the countdown ends. It's saved as an MP4 where your browser can record one, and as a WebM otherwise, which the MP4 converter turns into an MP4.

Questions

Is this teleprompter free?

Yes. It runs in your browser, with no watermark on recordings, no time limit and nothing to sign up for. Your script and your recordings stay on your device.

How do I make the teleprompter follow my voice?

Tick Pause when I pause. It listens to how loud your microphone is, on your device, and only scrolls while you're talking, so it waits when you stop for a breath or a retake. It doesn't recognize words, so keep the speed close to your pace.

Can I record myself while reading?

Yes. Tick Record me with my camera: you see yourself under the text while you read, and when you press Stop the recording, with sound, is ready to download. It's saved as the camera sees you, not mirrored.

Does it work on a phone or tablet?

Yes. Turn the phone sideways for longer lines, and prop it up just under the camera, or put a tablet on a tripod in front of the camera you film with. Touch and drag the text to move it.

How many words is a 1-minute script?

About 140 words at 140 words a minute, a relaxed pace. Paste your script and the tool shows how long it takes at the speed you set, from 80 to 220 words a minute.

How do I mirror the text for teleprompter glass?

Tick Mirror the text, or press M while it runs. Prompter glass shows the screen under it back to front, so mirrored text reads the right way round on the glass.

Recorded it? Turn it into clips

Upload the video (MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV) or paste a YouTube link. Clyper finds the moments worth posting, cuts each on whole sentences, frames it vertically on you and captions every word: up to 30 clips, ready for TikTok, Shorts and Reels.
