Clipchamp alternatives for clipping, compared
Clipchamp is Microsoft's free video editor, and a good one. But clipping in an editor means doing every step yourself, for every clip. This list is for that job: tools that find, cut, frame and caption clips from a long video for you. (If you're after a general editor to replace Clipchamp, this isn't that list.) We make the first one, and we'll say why it's first.

Why people switch from Clipchamp
Clipping in Clipchamp is six steps a clip: download the video (it takes files from your computer or OneDrive, not YouTube links), find the moment, split and trim it, set the canvas to 9:16 and drag the video into place (there's no auto reframe), generate and fix the captions, then export and start again. It has no tool that finds the best moments in a long video for you.
Long videos are hard on it, too: its help center recommends projects of 10 minutes or less for the best performance, and it runs in its Windows app or in Edge or Chrome on a computer, not in phone browsers. A two-hour podcast is a lot of scrubbing.

Our pick: an AI clipping tool built for clippers
Clyper
Yes, we make it, so of course it's first. We'd put it there anyway: it does the steps you'd do in Clipchamp, from a YouTube link. Paste a video up to 4 hours long and get up to 30 clips back, cut to whole sentences, framed on whoever's talking, captioned and scored.
Best for
- One link instead of six steps a clip: every clip found, cut, framed and captioned for you.
- YouTube links, public or unlisted, up to 4 hours long, as well as uploads, so there's no download before every video.
- A hook score on every clip, so you know which to post first.
Good to know
- It isn't an editor: no timeline, transitions or stock. Keep Clipchamp for those; Clyper's MP4s open in it.
- There's no free plan; Starter is $20 month to month.
AI clipping tool
Vizard
Best for
- A low price per minute: $0.0242 on its yearly Creator plan.
- A free plan to start with, and posting and scheduling to social apps.
Falls short on
- Its free plan exports at 720p with a watermark.
- It transcribes 40 languages, where Clyper captions more than 50.
AI clipping tool
OpusClip
Best for
- Creators clipping their own channel, with B-roll, brand templates, filler-word removal and scheduling in one app.
- Long videos, up to 10 hours, and links from Zoom, Vimeo, Twitch, Kick and more, with a free plan to try it.
Falls short on
- Before it clips a YouTube link, it asks you to confirm the channel is yours, so other creators' videos have to come in some other way.
- Billed yearly, Pro comes to $0.0483 a minute, against $0.0475 on Clyper Pro.
AI clipping tool, priced by the clip
Klap
Best for
- Paying per clip instead of per minute of video.
- 4K, B-roll, a brand kit and scheduling to five apps, with one video free to try.
Falls short on
- Its pricing page was testing different prices and units when we checked.
- Its docs put paid plans' limit at 3 hours a video.
AI clipping and scheduling tool, formerly vidyo.ai
quso.ai
Best for
- About 10 hours of video a month: Growth is 600 minutes for $49, $0.0817 a minute, or $0.0408 on a yearly plan bought by November 1, 2026.
- An editor, scheduling to seven apps and a brand kit, with a free plan in some countries.
Falls short on
- Its smaller plans give fewer minutes for more: Lite is 100 minutes for $29, against 150 for $20 on Clyper Starter.
- Its free plan exports at 720p with a watermark, and isn't offered in every country.
AI video editor with clipping
Reap
Best for
- A low price per hour of video: Creator is up to 10 hours of AI clipping a month for $9.99 billed yearly, $0.0167 a minute if its credits go only to clipping.
- Clips, dubbing into 80+ languages and scheduling in one editor, with 50+ caption presets in 100+ languages and a free plan to start.
Falls short on
- There's no setting for how many clips you get, its face tracking is in beta, and its gamers page says it works from what's said rather than the game.
- Its free plan exports at 720p with a watermark, for non-commercial use under its terms, and its virality score is on paid plans only.
Online video editor with an AI clip maker
Kapwing
Best for
- A full editor in the browser that also makes clips: prompt its clip maker for topics, longer or shorter clips and other shapes, then add subtitles, B-roll, dubbing and your brand kit.
- A low price per minute of clipping: its clip maker takes 2 credits a minute, so Pro's 1,000 a month come to $0.0320 a minute billed yearly, if they go to nothing else.
Falls short on
- Its links are limited to 120 minutes; for a longer video, you download it and upload the file.
- Its credits also pay for subtitles, dubbing and its other AI tools, and its pages list no score for each clip.
Captions and short-video editor
Submagic
Best for
- Polishing short videos you've already cut, with lots of caption styles and effects.
- B-roll, music, sound effects and zooms added for you.
Falls short on
- Clips from long videos (Magic Clips) take 8 credits each, from the same credits as editing.
- Its plans cap the videos you edit at 2 minutes each on Starter and 5 on Pro.
AI video app with a clip maker
Captions
Best for
- Making videos as well as clips: AI actors and digital twins, AI Edit styles, dubbing in a clone of your voice, and 100+ caption templates.
- Clips from a YouTube link or an upload up to 3 hours, ranked by a virality score, with facecam layouts for gaming and publishing to TikTok, Instagram and YouTube.
Falls short on
- Clips comes with Max, at $24.99 a month, and its free plan doesn't include it.
- Its FAQ says the number of clips depends on the video's length and its strong moments, and its credits page doesn't list what Clips costs.
Video and podcast editor
Descript
Best for
- Editing whole episodes through their transcript, as well as making clips.
- Choosing how many clips (up to 20) and how long they run.
Falls short on
- It works from uploaded files, not YouTube links.
- A full editor to learn when all you need is clips.
Online video editor with AI clips
VEED
Best for
- A full editor in the browser that also makes clips: edit by script, add B-roll, translate and dub, and generate AI video, avatars and voices.
- Clipping lots of uploaded videos for a flat price: its paid plans include unlimited Clips, from $12.25 a month a seat billed yearly.
Falls short on
- Its help center says Clips doesn't import YouTube links: you download the video with another service and upload the file.
- Clips takes videos with up to 3 hours of speech, and its free plan lets you try Clips once, with a watermark.
AI clipping tool with an editor, screen recorder and scheduler
Choppity
Best for
- Podcasters and marketers who want to fine-tune each clip in a full editor, with transcript editing, B-roll and sound effects, and schedule it from the same app.
- Teams: Team is $48 a month, or $33.60 billed yearly, with unlimited seats and 5 hours of video.
Falls short on
- It sells hours of video: Starter is $24 a month, or $16.80 billed yearly, for 3 hours.
- Its help center says it imports public YouTube videos up to 3 hours long, and its pricing page lists downloads from Starter, not on its free plan.
AI clipping tool
Spikes Studio
Best for
- A low yearly price: $0.0470 a minute on its PRO+ plan billed yearly.
- B-roll, music, transitions and scheduling to TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, Facebook and more, with a free plan to start.
Falls short on
- Its free plan is demo clips (its FAQ says up to 30 minutes of video a month) at 720p with a watermark, and face tracking, auto reframe and animated captions start with PRO+.
- Month to month, PRO+ costs $0.1100 a minute, against $0.0950 on Clyper Pro.
AI clipping tool for YouTube videos
2short.ai
Best for
- The lowest price of the tools that charge by the minute: $0.0166 a minute on Premium (50 hours of video for $49.90 a month), and $0.0221 on Pro.
- A free plan, with face tracking, animated subtitles and brand presets on every plan.
Falls short on
- Its FAQ lists 26 languages, where Clyper captions more than 50.
- Its site lists YouTube links, and Google Drive and other public links from Lite; it doesn't list uploads from your device.
AI clipping and scheduling tool for talking videos
Ssemble
Best for
- A low price for short talking videos: Pro is 30 credits a month, each clipping up to 20 minutes of a video, for $6 a month billed yearly or $15 month to month.
- A 0 to 100 score on each clip, scheduling to TikTok, YouTube and Instagram, and automation that clips a channel's new uploads.
Falls short on
- Its help center says it works only for talking videos, listing gaming and videos without a face among those it doesn't suit, and it clips a long video in 20-minute parts, a credit each.
- Its pricing page lists captions in over 30 languages, its uploads stop at 30 minutes and 1 GB, and there's no free plan.
AI shorts maker with a scheduler
SendShort
Best for
- Creators who make slideshows, faceless videos, music videos and AI avatars as well as clips, scheduled to TikTok and YouTube from one app.
- Telling the AI how many clips you want from a video, with 35+ caption styles in 100+ languages and exports up to 4K on Business.
Falls short on
- Its Starter plan can't clip long videos: that starts with Professional, $29 a month or $23 billed yearly, for 50 shorts.
- Every finished clip counts against the month's shorts, its scheduler posts to TikTok and YouTube only, and there's no free plan.
AI short-video maker with a clipper
Crayo
Best for
- Clippers who also make faceless videos: Reddit stories, fake texts, AI voiceovers and images from the same credits, with a timeline editor for every clip.
- 32 caption templates, transcription in 56 languages, layouts for a stream's facecam, and campaigns with the footage attached in its Content Library.
Falls short on
- Each clip takes a credit, and its AutoClip gives 1 to 20 a video: Hobby is $29 a month for 250 credits and 2 hours of exports.
- There's no free plan or scheduler, uploads stop at 3 hours, and its own comparison says it ranks moments rather than printing a score.
AI social media manager with clipping, formerly getmunch
Munch
Best for
- Businesses that want posts, carousels and scheduling made for them, with clips from their own webinars and podcasts in the same Planner.
- Agencies running several brands: Scale is 7,500 minutes of video a month across up to 15 brands, $318 a month billed yearly.
Falls short on
- You pay for its whole social media manager: Essential is $68 month to month, or $38 billed yearly, for 500 minutes of video.
- Its pages don't say which sites its links take, and its help center lists English, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Russian.
Video editor
CapCut
Best for
- A free editor, with full control of every cut, effect and sound.
- Finishing touches on clips you've already found.
Falls short on
- You find, cut, frame and caption each clip yourself, and there's no YouTube link to paste.
- Some built-in sounds are licensed for personal, non-commercial use only.
Recording studio with an AI clip maker
Riverside
Best for
- Podcasters recording their own show: remote guests in up to 4K on separate tracks, an editor, hosting and publishing, with Magic Clips made from each recording.
- Magic Clips on every plan, a free one included, and no watermark from Pro: $29 a month, or $24 billed yearly.
Falls short on
- Its Magic Clips work on what you record in Riverside or bring in, and none of its settings we read sets how many clips you get.
- Its Free plan exports at up to 720p with a Riverside watermark, and its plans pay for a whole recording studio, not only clips.
Content repurposing tool with an AI clip maker
Castmagic
Best for
- Show notes, newsletters, blog posts, social posts and carousels drafted from every recording, with clips cut from the same transcript.
- Imports from YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Zoom, Loom and RSS feeds, with unlimited clipping on every plan, from $19 a month billed yearly.
Falls short on
- Its Studio flags moments in the transcript and renders the ones you pick; its pages don't describe keeping the speaker in frame or a score for each clip.
- There's no free plan, and month to month it starts at $29 for Hobby, a price that pays for its written content as well as clips.
AI video maker with a clip maker
Pictory
Best for
- Making videos from scripts, articles, slides and PDFs, with AI voiceovers, avatars, stock footage and music.
- Editing a recording through its transcript, with filler words and silences taken out, and its key moments listed as clips or cut into a summary of 30 seconds to 5 minutes.
Falls short on
- Its clip maker works from uploaded files, not YouTube links: recordings up to 60 minutes on Starter and 180 on Professional and Teams.
- Its pricing page lists automatic video summary from Professional ($59 a month, or $35 billed yearly), and says Professional and Teams support 29 languages, where Clyper captions 50+.
Stream clipping tool
StreamLadder
Best for
- Streamers clipping their own Twitch and Kick VODs: paste the VOD link, with unlimited AI clipping on Creator ($27 a month, $22.50 billed yearly).
- A full clip editor with stickers, emotes and effects, posting and scheduling, a free plan for the editor and a 7-day trial.
Falls short on
- Its AI clipping doesn't take YouTube links: its help center says YouTube VODs aren't supported, so you upload the file.
- AI clipping starts with Creator; the free plan and Starter are the editor without it.
Stream highlights tool for streamers
Eklipse
Best for
- Streamers clipping their own Twitch, Kick and YouTube streams: connect the channel once and it finds the highlights after each stream.
- A low yearly price: Premium is $14.99 a month billed yearly, a subscription rather than minutes, with posting and scheduling to TikTok, Shorts, Reels and Facebook.
Falls short on
- Its FAQ says it's optimized for gaming: it scores moments from kills, wins, audio spikes and chat. It clips podcasts and IRL streams too.
- Trying it for free means a preview of the clips it finds in a recent stream, and its uploads have to be MP4s.
Faceless video maker
Clippie
Best for
- Faceless videos from a script or an idea: fake texts, Reddit stories, would-you-rather and quiz templates, with AI voices, images and captions.
- Captioning or splitting a clip you've already cut: 17 caption styles, and a split-screen template with gameplay under a podcast clip.
Falls short on
- It doesn't clip long videos: its own blog leaves cutting long footage to dedicated clipping tools, so each moment is found and cut elsewhere first.
- It takes no YouTube links and has no free plan; Lite is $19.99 a month for 1 hour of video exports.
How to choose
- Whose videos you clip. If it's other creators' YouTube videos, for campaigns, you need a tool that takes any public link. That narrows it fast.
- How much you'll clip. Work out the hours of video a month, then compare the price per minute, not the price per plan.
- How much you want to edit. Clips ready to post, or an editor to finish them in. Every step you add, you repeat on every clip.
- Try it on a real video. Use a free plan where there is one, or a month of the smallest plan, on the kind of video you'll actually clip.

Questions
What is the best Clipchamp alternative for clipping?
Clyper, if your clips come from long videos: paste a YouTube link and get up to 30 clips found, framed, captioned and scored for you. For a browser editor that also makes clips, Kapwing; for effects on clips you've already cut, Submagic.
Is there a free alternative to Clipchamp for clipping?
Vizard has a free plan (60 minutes a month at 720p, with a watermark); OpusClip has a free plan (60 minutes a month, with a watermark, and clips that can't be exported after 3 days); Klap has one video free to try; quso.ai has a free plan in some countries (75 minutes a month at 720p, with a watermark); Reap has a free plan (up to 1 hour of AI clipping a month, at 720p with a watermark); Kapwing has a free plan (10 credits in all, 5 minutes in its clip maker, at 720p with a watermark); Submagic has a free trial (3 short videos, with a watermark); Captions has a free plan (basic editing, without Clips); Descript has a free plan (1 hour of media at 720p, with a watermark); VEED has a free plan (Clips once, at 720p with a watermark); Choppity has a free plan (1 hour of video a month; its pricing page lists downloads from Starter); Spikes Studio has a free plan (demo clips, and up to 30 minutes of video a month by its FAQ, at 720p with a watermark); 2short.ai has a free plan (30 minutes a month); Munch has a 7-day free trial; CapCut has a free editor (if you cut each clip by hand); Riverside has a free plan (Magic Clips at up to 720p, with a Riverside watermark); Pictory has a 14-day free trial (recordings up to 15 minutes, at 720p with a watermark); StreamLadder has a free clip editor (with a 7-day trial of its AI clipping); Eklipse has a free preview (its AI scans one of your recent streams and shows you the clips it finds). Clyper has no free plan; Starter is $20 month to month, so a month is enough to try it on your own videos.
Is there a cheaper way to clip than Clipchamp?
Clipchamp's editor is free, and Premium comes with Microsoft 365 Personal at $9.99 a month, but you cut, frame and caption every clip yourself. Of the tools that do it for you, 2short.ai's Lite is $9.90 a month for 5 hours of video, and Clyper Starter is $20 for 150 minutes, up to 75 clips, each framed, captioned and scored.
Why do people look for Clipchamp alternatives for clipping?
Time, mostly: Clipchamp has no tool that finds the best moments in a long video, no YouTube link to paste and no auto reframe, so every clip is a download, a cut, a crop and a caption pass by hand. Its help center also recommends projects of 10 minutes or less.
Can I still use Clipchamp with Clyper?
Yes. Clyper's clips are 1080 × 1920 MP4s with no watermark, so they open in Clipchamp like any other video, for the edits only a person can make.
Which Clipchamp alternatives take YouTube links?
Clyper, Vizard, Klap, Crayo, Spikes Studio, 2short.ai, quso.ai, Choppity, Captions, Castmagic, Reap, SendShort and Ssemble take YouTube links. Submagic does with Magic Clips. OpusClip does once you confirm the YouTube channel is yours. Kapwing does for videos up to 2 hours. StreamLadder's AI clipping takes Twitch and Kick links, and YouTube videos as uploaded files. Eklipse brings in the streams and videos of a YouTube channel you connect. Riverside's pages say you can bring a YouTube video into its studio by its link, and its Magic Clips work on what's in the studio. Munch takes a link or an upload, though its pages don't say which sites its links can come from. CapCut, Descript, VEED, Pictory and Clippie work from uploaded files.
