Safe zone checker for TikTok, Reels and Shorts

The apps lay their buttons, captions and usernames over the edges of every vertical video. Drop in a frame or a clip and see what they'd cover before you post.

What a safe zone is

On TikTok, Reels and Shorts, your video plays behind the app: tabs and search along the top, the username, caption and sound along the bottom, and a column of buttons down the right. Anything under them is hard to see, or hidden. The safe zone is what's left in the middle, where captions, faces and anything people need to read stay in view.

The margins here are for a 1080 × 1920 video, the size all three apps show full screen. On a frame of another size, scale them by the same share of its width and height.

Keeping clips clear

Captions in the middle band. Put them above the bottom margin, around two thirds of the way down, where they're easy to read and nothing covers them.

Faces centered. Frame whoever's talking in the middle of the picture, away from the right edge, where the buttons are.

A watermark in a clear corner. Your @handle in the bottom-right sits under the share button. The watermark maker keeps it inside the clear area for you.

One version for every app. If you post the same clip everywhere, check it against “All three”: it's the strictest of the three, so a clip that passes it is clear on each.

Questions

What is the safe zone on TikTok?

On a 1080 × 1920 video, keep text, faces and logos away from about 160 px at the top, 420 px at the bottom, 60 px on the left and 120 px on the right. Tabs and search sit at the top, username, caption and sound at the bottom, and like, comment, save, share on the right.

What is the safe zone on Instagram Reels?

On a 1080 × 1920 video, keep text, faces and logos away from about 220 px at the top, 420 px at the bottom, 60 px on the left and 120 px on the right. Reels title and camera sit at the top, username, caption and audio at the bottom, and like, comment, share on the right.

What is the safe zone on YouTube Shorts?

On a 1080 × 1920 video, keep text, faces and logos away from about 240 px at the top, 380 px at the bottom, 48 px on the left and 200 px on the right. Search and menu sit at the top, title, channel and subscribe at the bottom, and like, dislike, comment, share, remix on the right.

Can one video be safe on every app?

Yes. Keep what matters inside the middle 820 × 1260 px (240 px at the top, 420 px at the bottom, 60 px on the left and 200 px on the right) and it's clear on TikTok, Reels and Shorts. Choose "All three" in the checker to see it.

Are these the apps' official numbers?

None of the apps publishes exact margins for the feed. These follow where each app puts its buttons and text today, rounded up a little, since they shift between phones and app updates. Ads carry extra buttons, so give them more room at the bottom.

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. The checker runs in your browser: the file you choose is shown from your own device and never leaves it.

Clips that fit every app

Clyper frames every clip on whoever's talking and puts its captions where none of the apps' buttons cover them. Paste a YouTube link to try it.
