YouTube money calculator

See what your videos' views could earn from YouTube ads. Put in your views a month, pick a rate from the range creators report, and see it by the month and the year.

Views on your regular videos, not Shorts. YouTube's RPM counts every view, including the ones that didn't show an ad.

What you keep per 1,000 views, after YouTube's share. Creators report about $1 to $6, with a median near $2.30; education and finance channels with US viewers earn more.

To earn from your videos

  • Be in the YouTube Partner Program: 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 public watch hours in the last 12 months, or 10 million Shorts views in 90 days.
  • From February 1, 2027, new applicants need 8,000 watch hours in a year, or 20 million Shorts views in 90 days.
  • Videos 8 minutes or longer can show ads in the middle too, which usually raises what each view pays.

Shorts bring the viewers, videos pay

The same 100K views as Shorts would pay about $7.00: a long video pays about 33× more per view. So channels post clips of their videos as Shorts, where new viewers find them, and earn when those viewers watch the full videos.

An estimate. YouTube pays creators 55% of the net ad revenue on their videos, which varies by country, topic, season and how many views show an ad, and doesn't publish a rate. The range is what creators and analytics companies reported in 2026.

How YouTube pays for videos

Advertisers pay YouTube to show ads on videos. For channels in the YouTube Partner Program, YouTube pays the creator 55% of the net ad revenue from their videos and keeps the rest. What you see in YouTube Studio as RPM is what you earned per 1,000 views after that split, from ads, YouTube Premium and things like memberships.

Not every view shows an ad: a viewer may have Premium, may have seen an ad recently, or there may be no advertiser for that viewer. That's why RPM is lower than the CPM advertisers pay, and why the calculator uses RPM.

What changes how much you earn

Topic. Advertisers pay most to reach people about to spend money or learn something. In a 2026 study of 300 channels by AIR Media-Tech, education and science channels earned a median of about $10 per 1,000 views, against about $2 for gaming and entertainment. Finance channels are widely reported to earn well above average too.

Where viewers are. Advertisers pay different amounts in each country, and US viewers are usually worth the most. The same video watched mostly in countries with less ad spending can earn a fraction as much. For more, read how much YouTube pays per view.

Length and time of year. Videos of 8 minutes or longer can show ads partway through as well as at the start. And advertisers bid more before the holidays, so RPM usually peaks from October to December and drops in January.

Videos and Shorts

Shorts pay far less per view than long videos: about $0.07 per 1,000 against $2.30. But they reach people who don't know your channel yet, and some of them go on to watch your videos, where the money is. That's why channels post short clips of their videos' best moments. Questions

How much does YouTube pay per 1,000 views?

YouTube doesn't publish a rate. Creators report about $1.00 to $6.00 per 1,000 views after YouTube's share, and a 2026 study of 300 channels found a median near $2.30. Education and finance channels with US viewers tend to earn the most.

How much does YouTube pay for 1 million views?

At $1.00 to $6.00 per 1,000 views, about $1,000 to $6,000, and around $2,300 at the typical rate. The same million views on Shorts pays nearer $70.

How many views do you need to make $1,000 a month?

About 435,000 views a month at the typical $2.30 per 1,000, fewer on a channel whose viewers advertisers pay more for. You need to be in the YouTube Partner Program first.

What do you need to get paid on YouTube?

Join the YouTube Partner Program: 1,000 subscribers with 4,000 public watch hours in the last 12 months, or 10 million Shorts views in 90 days. From February 1, 2027, new applicants need 8,000 watch hours in a year, or 20 million Shorts views in 90 days.

What's the difference between RPM and CPM?

CPM is what advertisers pay per 1,000 ad impressions, before YouTube's share. RPM is what you earn per 1,000 views, after it, and counting views that showed no ad. RPM is the one to use here, and it's always lower.
