Long video to short video

Long video to short videos, with AI

Paste a link to a long video, up to 4 hours, or upload one. Clyper finds the moments that stand on their own and turns each into a short vertical video with captions: up to 30 from one recording.

Short videos from one long one, with the hook score Clyper gave each and its length. Clips Clyper made from The Diary Of A CEO's video “Godfather of AI: They Keep Silencing Me But I’m Trying to Warn Them!”.

How it works

  1. 1

Paste or upload the long video

A YouTube link (public or unlisted) or a file, from 1 minute to 4 hours: a podcast, a stream, a talk, a webinar.

  2. 2

    Get the short videos

Clyper reads the whole thing, picks the moments that work alone and cuts each to 20 to 60 seconds, vertical and captioned.

  3. 3

    Check and post

Trim or extend a clip, fix a caption, then download 1080 × 1920 MP4s for TikTok, Reels and Shorts.

What you get

  • Up to 4 hoursLong podcasts and full stream replays, from a YouTube link or a file.
  • Scored for the hookEvery short video gets a hook score, so you post the strongest first.
  • Whole thoughtsEach one starts on a line that hooks and ends on its payoff, never mid-sentence.
  • Vertical, on the speakerCropped to 9:16 and following whoever's talking, even with two people on screen.
  • CaptionedAnimated captions on every word, in the video's own language, 50+ of them.
  • Yours to adjustTrim to the word, extend either end by up to 15 seconds, fix a word or change the style.

“Went from an hour per clip to under 2 minutes. Still can’t believe it.”

What AI does that a timeline can't

Cutting a long video by hand means watching all of it, marking the good parts, cropping each to 9:16, keeping the speaker in frame and typing or fixing captions: hours for a single podcast. Clyper does the watching for you. It transcribes every word, finds the moments that make sense without the rest of the video, and cuts each to whole sentences, from a line that hooks to its payoff.

Then it frames each one on whoever's talking, captions it word by word and scores its opening, so the short videos you post first are the strongest. How that works is in how AI clip generators work.

How many short videos from one long one

The most short videos you can ask for, and the credits each long video uses (a credit is a minute of video).
Long videoShort videos, at mostCredits
15 minutes715
30 minutes1530
1 hour3060
2 hours30120
4 hours30240

You choose the number, up to one for every 2 minutes of video and 30 in all, for the same credits. On Auto, Clyper picks about one for every 6 minutes, up to 10, and keeps only the strong ones. A 30-minute video gives up to 15; try any length in the clips per video calculator.

Which long videos make the best short ones

People talking. Every sentence is a possible moment, and the best stand on their own:

Video without much talking, like silent gameplay or music, gives fewer moments to cut, since Clyper finds them in what's said.

Longer than 4 hours?

Split it into parts of up to 4 hours each with the free video splitter, then upload each part. Each is clipped as a video of its own, with its own clips.

How long should each short video be?

As long as the moment, and no longer. Clyper's run 20 to 60 seconds, long enough for a hook and its payoff, short enough that most people watch to the end. TikTok, Reels and Shorts all take longer videos, but a short one that's watched through does better than a long one people leave. More in how long should a short video be.

Questions

How do I turn a long video into short videos?

Paste its YouTube link or upload it to Clyper. It finds the moments that stand on their own, cuts each to whole sentences, crops it to 9:16 and captions every word, for up to 30 short videos.

How long can the long video be?

From 1 minute to 4 hours. For a longer recording, split it into parts with the free video splitter and upload each.

Can I upload a file instead of a YouTube link?

Yes. Upload an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV file, like a Zoom recording, a stream download or a podcast export.

How many short videos does one long video give?

Up to one for every 2 minutes of video, and 30 in all. A 30-minute video gives up to 15; an hour or more up to 30.

Does the AI pick the moments, or do I?

The AI picks them, and scores each one's hook. You choose how many, then trim, extend or drop any clip in the editor.

Is there a free long video to short video converter?

Clyper is paid, from its Starter plan. The free video highlight finder finds the liveliest moments of a video by its sound and saves each as a clip, in your browser; framing and captioning them is the part Clyper does for you.
