Clyper vs Riverside
Riverside is a recording studio, and its Magic Clips turn what you record or upload there into short clips. Clyper is built for clippers. Paste any YouTube link, from your own channel or a campaign's, and get up to 30 vertical clips cut to whole sentences, framed on whoever's talking and captioned word by word, with no watermark on any plan.

Our take
We make Clyper, so this is our case for it. What we say about Riverside comes from its own pricing page, feature pages and help center, linked at the bottom.
If you clip for campaigns, we'd pick Clyper. Campaigns hand you other creators' YouTube videos, and Clyper starts from the link: paste it, choose how many clips you want, and they come back cut to whole sentences, framed, captioned and scored, with no watermark on any plan. Riverside's Magic Clips work on what you record in Riverside or bring into it, as an uploaded file or, its YouTube pages say, a YouTube video by its link.
Riverside is built for recording your own show: remote guests on separate tracks, an editor, hosting and publishing. If that's your job, keep it for the recording and let Clyper make the clips once the episode is out.
Why clippers pick Clyper over Riverside for clips
It starts from any YouTube link
Riverside's Magic Clips are made from what's in your Riverside studio: recordings made there, files you upload (MP4, MPEG, MOV or WebM, its YouTube editor page says) and, its YouTube pages say, YouTube videos brought in by their link. Clyper takes any public or unlisted YouTube link, from a minute to 4 hours long, with no channel check, and Studio takes 10 links at once. A campaign video goes from link to clips in one paste.
Clipping someone else's video still needs their permission, which clipping campaigns give.
You choose how many clips, each a whole thought
Riverside's pages describe settings for Magic Clips' length, layout, aspect ratio, topics and the speaker to focus on; none we read sets how many clips you get. On Clyper you choose how many you want, up to 30 a video, or leave it on Auto, and more clips don't cost more credits. Each runs 20 to 60 seconds and starts and ends on a whole sentence, so nothing opens mid-thought.
Framed from the picture, in any video
Riverside's layouts start from its separate tracks, one for each person it records. A video recorded elsewhere comes in as a single track, its glossary says, and its help center says it can split one into a track for each speaker only when the layout stays the same from start to finish, no one joins or leaves, and nobody shares a screen. Clyper works from the picture: it follows whoever's talking in the video you give it, cuts to the other person when they answer, and stacks a stream's webcam over the game.
No watermark from the first plan
Riverside's Free plan exports at up to 720p with a Riverside watermark; Pro, the first plan without it, is $29 a month, or $24 billed yearly. Clyper Starter is $20 a month for 150 minutes of video, up to 75 clips, as 1080 × 1920 MP4s with no watermark. Each comes captioned word by word in 50+ languages, in an animated style placed clear of every app's buttons, with a hook score (Pro and Studio add all 5 caption styles), and if one needs a nudge, you can trim it, extend either end by up to 15 seconds or fix a word.

What it costs
Riverside sells a subscription to its whole studio: recording, editing, hosting and Magic Clips. Its Free plan has Magic Clips at up to 720p, with a Riverside watermark. Pro, the first plan without the watermark, is $29 a month, or $24 billed yearly ($288); Grow is $39, or $34 billed yearly; Webinar is $99, or $79 billed yearly; Business is priced by its sales team. Pro starts with 2,000 AI credits for features like AI B-roll and translation; its pricing FAQ says Magic Clips don't use them.
Clyper sells minutes of video, only for clips, with no watermark on any plan. Starter is 150 minutes, up to 75 clips, for $20 a month; Pro is 400 minutes, up to 200 clips, for $38, or $19 a month billed yearly. Month to month, that's a cheaper start than Riverside Pro ($20 against $29), and billed yearly, Clyper Pro is $19 a month against $24. Riverside's price also pays for its recorder, editor and hosting, so if you record your show there, it buys more than clips.

Where Riverside does more
Riverside does far more than clips. It records remote guests in up to 4K, each on their own track, with a teleprompter and in-person multi-camera recording; it edits by transcript or timeline, with AI tools for B-roll, eye contact, silences and filler words; it transcribes in 100+ languages, hosts podcasts and publishes to YouTube, Spotify, Apple, Instagram, LinkedIn and more, with social scheduling on Grow; and it streams live and runs webinars. Its Magic Clips can run up to 3 minutes, can be made automatically after every recording, and come on every plan, Free included.
Clyper doesn't record, host or post. It makes clips, as 1080 × 1920 MP4s with no watermark, from any YouTube link or file, so it sits beside Riverside rather than replacing it.
Record in Riverside, clip in Clyper
- Keep recording in Riverside if that's where your show is made.
- Bring the episode to Clyper. Paste its YouTube link once it's published, or export the edit as an MP4 and upload it: turning a Riverside recording into clips has the steps. Starter is $20 a month, and you can cancel whenever you like.
- Choose the clips and post them. Ask for up to 30, or leave it on Auto, then download them and post them as they are. For what makes a clip worth posting, see how to clip a podcast into short videos.
Questions
Is Clyper better than Riverside for making clips?
For clipping, we think so: it takes any public YouTube link with no channel check, lets you choose up to 30 clips a video, cuts each on whole sentences, frames whoever's talking and captions every word, with no watermark on any plan. Riverside is the tool for recording and editing your own show, and its Magic Clips work on what you record or upload there.
Can Riverside make clips from a YouTube video?
Its YouTube pages say you can bring a YouTube video into Riverside by its link, or upload the file, and Magic Clips makes clips from what you bring in. Clyper takes any public or unlisted YouTube link, up to 4 hours long, and Studio takes 10 links at once.
How much does Riverside cost?
Its Free plan has Magic Clips at up to 720p, with a Riverside watermark. Pro is $29 a month, or $24 billed yearly ($288); Grow is $39, or $34 billed yearly; Webinar is $99, or $79 billed yearly; Business is priced by its sales team. Clyper Starter is $20 a month, with no watermark.
Does Riverside put a watermark on clips?
On its Free plan, yes: its pricing page lists a Riverside watermark on everything you make, at up to 720p. Pro and up have no watermark, from $29 a month. Clyper has no watermark on any plan, from $20 a month.
Can I make clips of my Riverside recordings with Clyper?
Yes. Paste the episode's YouTube link once it's published, or export the episode from Riverside and upload the file (MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV, up to 4 GB). Clyper doesn't connect to your Riverside account, so there's nothing to set up.
