Hook score
An AI virality score on every clip, so you post the strongest first
Clyper's is called a hook score. Its AI reads each video, picks the moments worth clipping and scores every clip from 0 to 100 for how likely its opening is to stop the scroll and keep people to the end, then sorts them, strongest first.

Clyper scores every moment
Its AI reads the whole transcript, picks the moments that stand on their own and scores each one's hook from 0 to 100.

Post the strongest first
Clips come sorted by hook score, each with its rank and score on it. Start at the top.

Jordan Mackey, faceless clipper · $1,200/moHow Clyper scores a clip
When you paste a link, Clyper's AI reads the video's whole transcript and picks the moments worth clipping: ones that make sense on their own, open on a line that makes people need the next one and end right after the payoff, 20 to 60 seconds long, skipping sponsor reads. Each gets a hook score from 0 to 100: how likely its opening sentence is to stop someone scrolling, and the clip to keep them to the end.
It's asked to be strict, so the scores spread out and the order means something:
- 90 or above: rare and exceptional.
- 75 to 89: strong.
- 60 to 74: decent.
- 50 to 59: weaker, but still a moment that makes sense on its own. These fill the list when you ask for more clips than a video has strong moments. Nothing under 50 is kept.
On the site's own example clips, from 4 videos, the hook scores run from 64 to 80. The score also sets the order: clips come sorted by it, and when two picks overlap, the higher-scored one is kept.
It's read from the words. The hook score rates what's said, not the picture or the tone of voice, so a moment carried by a look or a laugh can play better than it scores. How scores like it work across clipping tools is in what a virality score is.
How to use your hook scores
- Post the top of the list first. Your likeliest clip gets the most time to find its audience. On a campaign, get the highest scorers out early, while the budget lasts.
- Don't split hairs. A few points apart is close to a tie: between two clips like that, post the one you'd stop scrolling for.
- Test it on your accounts. Running several? Give each account its own clips, never the same one twice on one app, and note each clip's score beside how its first seconds held: its hook rate, or on Shorts its swipe-away rate. After a few weeks you'll know how far the score predicts your audience. More in how to run multiple clip accounts.
- Give the low scorers a second look. A low score often means a slow first line. Watch the clip, trim it to start on its strongest sentence, or write a sharper opening with the free hook generator. On Pro and Studio, each clip can also open with its hook as a headline for its first 4 seconds, which you can reword in the editor.
- Learn from the winners. When a clip takes off, look at how it opens (its hook) and how much of it people watched (its retention rate), and look for more moments like it in the next video.
Hook score vs virality score
A hook score is Clyper's version of a virality score: a number on each clip, made from the clip before it's posted, that puts a video's clips in order. It's named for what it rates: the opening, and whether the clip holds people once it has them.
Scales differ from tool to tool, so compare scores within one video, not across apps. OpusClip's help center says its Virality Score runs from 0 to 99 and isn't shown on its free plan; quso.ai's says every clip scores between 75 and 99. Clyper's hook score runs from 0 to 100, strictly, on every plan. More in Clyper vs OpusClip, and on what any score can and can't know in what a virality score is.
Part of every clip
The hook score comes with every clip Clyper makes, on every plan, along with the cut on whole sentences, the framing on whoever's talking and captions on every word, up to 30 clips per video. Questions
What is a hook score?
Clyper's score for each clip it makes, from 0 to 100: how likely the clip's opening sentence is to stop someone scrolling, and the clip to keep them to the end. Clips are sorted by it, so you can post the strongest first.
Is a hook score the same as a virality score?
It does the same job: it ranks one video's clips so you know which to post first. Clyper names it for what it rates, the hook and whether the clip holds. Scales differ from tool to tool, so compare scores within one video.
What is a good hook score?
Clyper scores strictly: 90 or above is rare, 75 to 89 is strong and 60 to 74 is decent. Nothing under 50 is kept. Compare a video's clips with each other rather than chasing a number.
Which plans show the hook score?
Every plan: Starter, Pro and Studio all show a hook score on every clip.
How many clips does Clyper score from one video?
As many as you choose, up to one for every 2 minutes of video and 30 per video, or leave it on Auto. Each clip comes with its hook score.
Can Clyper score a clip I already made?
No: Clyper isn't a checker for finished clips. It scores the moments it picks from a longer video, as it makes them into clips. Paste the full video's link or upload it, and every clip comes back scored.
Does editing a clip change its hook score?
No. The score is given when Clyper picks the moment, so trimming a clip or changing its captions in the editor changes the clip, not the number.
How accurate is the hook score?
It's a prediction made from what's said in the clip, before anyone has seen it, so its best use is putting one video's clips in order. It doesn't see the picture, or know your audience or when you post. Note each clip's score beside how it did, and after a few weeks you'll know how far to trust it on your account.
