Clyper vs Castmagic
Castmagic is a content platform: it transcribes a recording, drafts show notes, posts and newsletters from it, and its Studio cuts clips from the moments it flags. Clyper is built for clippers. Paste a YouTube link, choose how many clips you want, up to 30, and every one comes back framed on whoever's talking, captioned word by word and scored, ready to post.

Our take
We make Clyper, so this is our case for it. What we say about Castmagic comes from its own pricing page and feature pages, linked at the bottom.
If clips are the job, we'd pick Clyper. In Castmagic, clips are one output of a transcript: it flags the moments worth posting, and you pick each one you want rendered. In Clyper you paste the link, say how many clips you want, and they all come back cut, framed on whoever's talking, captioned and scored.
Castmagic is the one to look at if you need the writing as well: show notes, newsletters, blog posts and social posts drafted from every recording.
Why clippers pick Clyper over Castmagic for clips
Every clip made for you, not moments to pick
Castmagic's clip maker flags moments in the transcript, and its FAQ says nothing is rendered until you pick it, each clip with its own ratio, caption and length. On Clyper you choose how many clips you want, up to 30 a video, or leave it on Auto, and every one comes back finished: 20 to 60 seconds, starting and ending on a whole sentence, framed, captioned and scored. Studio takes 10 YouTube links at once, up to 4 hours each.
When you post several clips a day, that's the difference between a queue to work through and clips ready to download. You still need permission to post clips of someone else's video, which clipping campaigns give.
Framed on whoever's talking
Castmagic's pages say you choose 9:16, 1:1, 4:5 or 16:9 and the framing follows; none we read describes keeping the speaker in frame. Clyper frames every clip on whoever's talking and cuts to the other person when they answer, so at 9:16 the frame is on whoever is speaking, and a stream gets its webcam stacked over the game.
A hook score on every clip
Castmagic labels the moments it flags as a hook, a story or a takeaway; its pages list no score. Clyper gives every clip a hook score, so you know which to post first, and captions it word by word in 50+ languages, in 5 animated styles placed clear of every app's buttons. If a clip needs a nudge, trim it, extend either end by up to 15 seconds or fix a word.
Built for clips, and cheaper to start
Castmagic's plans pay for a whole content platform, from $29 a month on Hobby, billed monthly. Clyper Starter is $20 a month for 150 minutes of video, up to 75 clips, with no yearly commitment, and every minute goes to clips.

Every plan has unlimited clipping and a library of transcribed hours, 30 on Hobby, 100 on Starter and 400 on Team, which its pricing page says you build up over time, with more to buy anytime.
Clyper sells minutes of video, only for clips: Starter is 150 minutes, up to 75 clips, for $20 a month; Pro is 400 minutes, up to 200 clips, for $38, or $19 a month billed yearly ($228 a year). Month to month, Clyper costs less to start, $20 against $29. Castmagic's price also pays for its written content, so if you need show notes and posts too, it buys more than clips.

Where Castmagic does more
Castmagic does a lot beyond clips. From each recording it drafts show notes, chapters, newsletters, blog posts, LinkedIn posts, threads and swipeable carousels, in your brand's voice, and a strategist suggests what to publish next. It imports from YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Instagram, TikTok, Vimeo, Zoom, Loom and Google Drive, pulls in every new episode from an RSS feed, takes files up to 10 GB, and transcribes 60+ languages with translation. Audio-only shows get audiograms, clips come in four shapes, and teams get shared spaces, an API and a chatbot trained on their episodes.
Clyper doesn't write show notes or posts. It makes clips, as 1080 × 1920 MP4s with no watermark, so if you write your show notes in Castmagic, keep doing that and let Clyper make the clips.
Castmagic for the writing, Clyper for the clips
- Keep Castmagic for the written set if your show notes, newsletter and posts come from it.
- Clip in Clyper. Paste the episode's YouTube link and get up to 30 clips, framed, captioned and scored. Starter is $20 a month, and you can cancel whenever you like.
- Post the clips as they come. For what makes a clip worth posting, see how to clip a podcast into short videos.
Questions
Is Clyper better than Castmagic for clips?
For clipping, we think so: paste a YouTube link, choose up to 30 clips, and every one comes back framed on whoever's talking, captioned word by word and scored, ready to post. Castmagic is the tool for the written content around a recording: show notes, newsletters and posts.
Can Castmagic make clips from a YouTube video?
Yes. Its pages say it imports public YouTube links, transcribes the video and flags moments worth clipping; you pick the ones to render, each with captions, at 9:16, 1:1, 4:5 or 16:9. Clyper renders every clip you ask for, up to 30 a video, and Studio takes 10 links at once.
How much does Castmagic cost?
Hobby is $29 a month, or $19 a month billed yearly ($239 a year); Starter is $69, or $48; Team is $199, or $139; Business & Scale starts at $699 billed yearly. There's no free plan. Clyper Starter is $20 a month.
Is Castmagic good for clipping campaigns?
It takes public YouTube links, and its pages describe a content platform, with clips as one output beside show notes and posts. Clipping campaigns mean posting many clips a day from other creators' videos, and Clyper is built for that: any public or unlisted YouTube link, up to 30 clips each, framed, captioned and scored, 10 links at once on Studio.
Can I use Castmagic and Clyper together?
Yes. Keep drafting show notes and posts in Castmagic, and paste the same YouTube link into Clyper for the clips. Clyper's clips are 1080 × 1920 MP4s with no watermark.
