Clyper vs Pictory

Pictory is an AI video maker: it turns scripts, articles and slides into videos, and its clip maker picks key moments from a recording you upload. Clyper is built for clippers. Our take

We make Clyper, so this is our case for it. What we say about Pictory comes from its own pricing page, feature pages and help center, linked at the bottom.

If clips are the job, we'd pick Clyper. Pictory is built around making videos: from a script, an article, slides or a PDF, with AI voiceovers, avatars and stock footage. Its clip maker is one tool in its AI video editor: you upload the recording, and it lists the key moments as clips. In Clyper you paste the YouTube link, up to 4 hours long, and the clips come back cut to whole sentences, framed on whoever's talking, captioned and scored.

Keep Pictory if you make videos from text. For clips of long videos, Clyper does the one job, for less a month.

Why clippers pick Clyper over Pictory

  1. It starts from the YouTube link

Pictory's clip maker works from files you upload. Its FAQ says that to summarize a video from your own YouTube channel, you download it from YouTube Studio and upload it. Clyper takes any public or unlisted YouTube link, with no channel check, and Studio takes 10 links at once. Working through a campaign's videos, that's a download and an upload you skip on every one.

Clipping someone else's video still needs their permission, which clipping campaigns give.

  2. Videos up to 4 hours, on every plan

Pictory's AI video editor takes recordings up to 60 minutes on Starter and 180 on Professional and Teams. Clyper takes videos up to 4 hours on every plan, by link or as an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV file up to 4 GB, so a long podcast or a stream replay goes in whole.

  3. Clips made for phones, ready to post

On Clyper you choose how many clips you want, up to 30 a video, or leave it on Auto. Each runs 20 to 60 seconds, starts and ends on a whole sentence, follows whoever's talking and cuts to the other person when they answer; a stream gets its webcam stacked over the game. Captions go on word by word, in 5 animated styles placed clear of every app's buttons, and every clip gets a hook score, so you know which to post first.

Pictory lists the moments it finds as numbered clips, and you choose vertical before you download. Its pages don't mention keeping the speaker in frame or a score for each clip. If a Clyper clip needs a nudge, trim it, extend either end by up to 15 seconds or fix a word.

  4. Captions in 50+ languages, for less a month

Pictory's pricing page says Professional and Teams support 29 languages, and Starter 7. Clyper captions 50+ on every plan. It costs less a month at every level, too: Starter is $20 for 150 minutes of video, up to 75 clips, against $29 for Pictory Starter ($25 billed yearly), and Pro is $38, or $19 billed yearly, against $59 or $35 for Professional.

What it costs

Pictory's plans come with credits, which it calls the shared currency across its AI features, shown with the minutes of video they cover. Starter is $29 a month, or $25 billed yearly, for 2,000 credits a month, up to 30 minutes of video; Professional is $59, or $35 billed yearly, for 6,000, up to 90 minutes; Teams, for 3+ users, is $199, or $119 billed yearly, for 18,000, up to 300 minutes. Yearly plans get the year's credits up front. Its pricing page lists automatic video summary, which condenses a long video into its key moments, on Professional and Teams, not Starter.

Clyper sells minutes of source video, only for clips: Starter is 150 minutes for $20 a month, up to 75 clips; Pro is 400, up to 200 clips, for $38, or $19 billed yearly. Plan for plan, Clyper costs less a month. Pictory's pages don't say whether clips from an uploaded recording count its minutes or the clips', so the two don't compare minute for minute.

Where Pictory does more

Pictory makes videos from scratch, which Clyper doesn't. It turns a script, an article, a web page, slides or a PDF into a video with stock footage, music, AI voiceovers and avatars, translates videos, and keeps brand kits for a team. Its editor works through the transcript, removes filler words and silences, adds B-roll, and exports landscape and square as well as vertical. There's a 14-day free trial.

Clyper doesn't try to be a video maker. Its clips are 1080 × 1920 MP4s with no watermark on any plan, so they open in Pictory like any other video when you want B-roll or your brand kit on one.

Clyper for the clips, Pictory for videos from text

  1. Clip in Clyper. Paste the YouTube link and get up to 30 clips, captioned and scored. Starter is $20 a month, and you can cancel whenever you like.
  2. Keep Pictory for what it's built for: videos from scripts, articles and slides, with voiceovers and stock footage.
  3. Post the clips as they come. For what makes a clip worth posting, see how to clip a podcast into short videos.

Questions

Is Clyper better than Pictory for clips?

For clipping, we think so: paste a YouTube link up to 4 hours long and get up to 30 clips cut to whole sentences, framed on whoever's talking, captioned in 50+ languages and scored, with no file to download first. Pictory is built for making videos from scripts, articles and slides.

Can Pictory make clips from a YouTube video?

Not from a link. Its clip maker works from files you upload, up to 180 minutes long on Professional and Teams and 60 on Starter, and its FAQ says to download a video from your own channel in YouTube Studio and upload it. Its URL to Video tool takes a YouTube link, but it turns the video into a script for a new video, not clips. Clyper takes any public or unlisted YouTube link.

How much does Pictory cost?

Starter is $29 a month, or $25 billed yearly; Professional is $59, or $35 billed yearly; Teams, for 3+ users, is $199, or $119 billed yearly. Their credits cover up to 30, 90 and 300 minutes of video a month, and its pricing page lists automatic video summary on Professional and Teams. There's a 14-day free trial.

Is Clyper cheaper than Pictory?

Plan for plan, yes: Clyper Starter is $20 a month, against $29 for Pictory Starter ($25 billed yearly), and Clyper Pro is $38, or $19 billed yearly, against $59 or $35 for Professional. Clyper's minutes go only to clips; Pictory's credits also pay for its generated video, images and avatars.

Does Pictory add a watermark?

Only on the free trial: its help center says the watermark is on videos downloaded during the trial, and the trial exports at 720p. Paid plans export up to 1080p without it. Clyper has no watermark on any plan, from $20 a month.

Does Clyper have a free plan?

No. Starter is $20 a month, billed monthly, so a month is enough to see what it makes of your videos. Pictory has a 14-day free trial, at 720p with a watermark.
