Add a watermark to a video
Put your @handle or logo on a video so it's credited wherever it ends up. Make it see-through, put it in a corner or drag it anywhere, keep it clear of the apps' buttons, or have it move between corners so it can't be cropped out. Free, on your device.
Loading the video…
MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV, up to 30 minutes. It's made on your device: nothing is uploaded.
An example: a 7-second vertical clip
Free, nothing to sign up for. The video keeps its size and its sound.
How to add a watermark to a video
- Choose your video (MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV), or try it on the example clip first.
- Type your handle, add your logo, or both. The logo sits to the left of the text, the way channel names show in the apps.
- Place it. Pick one of nine spots or drag it on the picture. Set the size, and the opacity: 60 to 80% is visible without getting in the way.
- Press Add the watermark. Every frame is drawn with it and the video re-encoded at its own size, with its sound, then you download it: an MP4, or a WebM in a browser that can't make MP4s.
Where to put a watermark on a vertical video
TikTok, Reels and Shorts lay their own buttons and text over a vertical video, so a watermark in the wrong place is hidden or looks cluttered. None of the apps publishes exact margins, and they shift a little between phones and app versions, so these are our own measurements, rounded and on the generous side. Keep it out of these areas (on a 1080 × 1920 video):
| Edge | What's there | Keep clear |
|---|---|---|
| Bottom | Username, caption, sound or audio, Subscribe | The bottom 380 to 420 pixels |
| Right | Like, comment, share, remix | The right 120 to 200 pixels |
| Top | Tabs, search, the Reels camera | The top 160 to 240 pixels |
| Left | Nothing, but phones round the corners | About 60 pixels |
With Keep it clear of the apps' buttons ticked, the red shading shows those areas and the nine spots sit inside what's left on all three apps. To check a finished video against each app, use the safe zone checker.
Watermarks and reach
A watermark credits you when a video travels, but the apps treat marks from other places as a sign of reposted content. Instagram's help center lists reels that “contain borders, logos, or watermarks” among those it may show less often, and TikTok keeps reused clips that show someone else's watermark or logo out of the For You feed. Instagram also says adding a watermark isn't enough to make someone else's video yours.
So keep your own mark small and see-through, never post a video with another app's watermark on it, and when you post a clip in several places, upload the clean file to each rather than a download with the first app's mark. On YouTube, the channel watermark you set in YouTube Studio (under Customization, then Profile) shows over your videos in landscape view without changing the files.
For clippers and editors
Sending clips to a client before they pay, or posting clips that get reuploaded? A moving watermark protects them better than a fixed one, and a handle in the corner sends viewers back to the source. Keep the clean file for the final delivery.
Clyper makes the clips themselves: paste a YouTube link or upload a long video, and it finds the moments worth posting, cuts each one on whole sentences, frames it vertically on whoever's talking and captions every word. Then put your mark on with this tool, or add a title with add text to video.
Questions
How do I add a watermark to a video for free?
Choose your video here, type your @handle or add your logo, pick a corner, and set the size and opacity. Press Add the watermark and download the video: same size, same sound, with your mark on every frame. There's no Clyper watermark and nothing to sign up for.
Can I use my logo as a watermark?
Yes. Add a PNG, JPG, WebP or SVG. A PNG with a see-through background looks best, since only the logo shows. You can use the logo on its own or next to your handle, and set how see-through it is.
Where should I put a watermark on a TikTok or Reel?
Inside the area the apps leave clear: not in the bottom fifth or so, where the caption and username go, and not down the right side, where the like and share buttons sit. On a vertical video, Keep it clear of the apps' buttons (on from the start) keeps the nine spots inside that area for you.
Does a watermark hurt reach on Instagram or TikTok?
Instagram's help center lists reels that contain borders, logos or watermarks among those it may show less often, and its creator FAQ warns that a third-party watermark may hurt reach. TikTok keeps reused clips that show someone else's watermark or logo out of the For You feed. A small, see-through handle on your own video is the usual compromise; leave it off where reach matters more than credit.
Why move the watermark around?
A mark that stays in one corner can be cropped or blurred out in a few seconds. One that moves to another corner every few seconds (every 5, 10 or 20 seconds, as you choose) is much harder to remove from the whole video, so it's what people use to protect footage they're sending to clients or posting where it gets reuploaded.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The watermark is drawn and the video re-encoded on your device, in your browser, so the video never leaves it. Videos up to 30 minutes at a time.
