Crop video

Crop a video to any shape: drag a box over the part you want, hold it to 9:16, 1:1 or 4:5, and download an MP4. It runs on your device, so nothing is uploaded.

MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV, or drop one on the player. It's cropped on your device: nothing is uploaded.

An example: 8 seconds of IMPAULSIVE

Shape

For TikTok, Reels and Shorts. Drag the box over what matters, and drag a corner to resize it.

Free, no watermark, and nothing to sign up for.

When the speaker moves, a fixed crop loses them. Clyper finds a video's best moments and frames each one on whoever is talking, with captions, for TikTok, Reels and Shorts.

How to crop a video

  1. Choose your video, or drop it on the player. MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV work.
  2. Pick a shape: 9:16 for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, 1:1 or 4:5 for feed posts, 16:9 for YouTube, or Free for any shape.
  3. Drag the box over what matters and drag a corner to resize it. The lines split it in thirds, to line up a face or the action.
  4. Crop, then download the MP4.

What each shape keeps of a 16:9 video

A horizontal video is wider than every other shape, so cropping it keeps a slice. Here's how much of a 1920 × 1080 video each shape keeps, cropped at full height:

Cropping a 1920 × 1080 video to each shape
ShapeForCropKeeps
9:16TikTok, Reels and Shorts608 × 108032%
1:1square posts1080 × 108056%
4:5Instagram and Facebook feed posts864 × 108045%
4:3a classic, squarer frame1440 × 108075%

Work out any other size with the aspect ratio calculator, or see every app's sizes in video sizes for TikTok, Reels and Shorts.

When a fixed crop isn't enough

A crop stays in one place. That's fine for one person sitting still, but in a podcast with two guests, or anyone who walks around, a 9:16 crop cuts people off as they move or take turns talking. Making it follow them by hand means keyframing the crop, shot by shot, in an editor. Clyper does that for you: it finds whoever is talking in each moment and frames the clip on them. Questions

How do I crop a video?

Choose the video, pick a shape (or Free), drag the box over the part you want and drag its corners to resize it. Pick the part of the video to keep if you don't want all of it, press Crop video, and download the MP4.

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. Your browser reads the video, crops it and saves the new file, all on your device. Nothing is sent to us or anyone else.

How do I crop a video for TikTok, Reels or Shorts?

Pick 9:16 and drag the box over the person or thing that matters. From a 1920 × 1080 video, that's a 608 × 1080 crop, a third of the picture. To fill the frame at 1080 × 1920, or fit the whole picture instead, use the vertical video converter.

Does cropping lower the quality?

The pixels you keep stay as sharp as they were, but the video is a smaller picture, and it's encoded again at high quality. A tight crop of a small video can look soft when the app scales it up to fill a phone.

How long a video can I crop?

Any length, up to 10 minutes of it at a time. Cropping takes about as long as the part plays, faster on a computer than on a phone.

Is it free? Is there a watermark?

It's free, with no watermark and nothing to sign up for.
