How to resize a video

  1. Choose your video, or try the example. MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV all work, up to 30 minutes at a time.
  2. Pick a size. One of the apps' sizes, the same shape at another resolution (4K, 1440p, 1080p, 720p, 480p, 360p), or a custom width and height from 128 to 3840 pixels.
  3. Choose how it fills the new shape: crop to fill and drag the picture to what matters, or keep all of it on a blurred background or between bars. The preview is drawn exactly as the file will be.
  4. Press Resize video and download the MP4, with its sound. No watermark, nothing to sign up for.

Video sizes for each app

These are the sizes the resizer makes. Each app takes others too, but these fill the screen or the feed with nothing cut off.

For every app's limits on length, file size and frame rate, read video sizes for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, or check a video against them with the video size checker.

Crop, blurred background or bars

Crop to fill uses the whole frame, so it looks native in the feed, but it cuts off the sides: a 9:16 crop of a 1920 × 1080 video keeps 608 × 1080, about a third of the picture. Drag it to the speaker, the product or the action.

Blurred background keeps everything: the picture sits in the middle on a blurred, darkened copy of itself. It suits slides, screen recordings and wide shots where nothing can be cut. Bars does the same on black or white.

A crop holds one spot for the whole video. When the person talking moves, or two people take turns, part of the clip frames no one. That's what Clyper's auto reframe is for: it follows whoever is talking.

Questions

How do I resize a video?

Choose the video, pick a size (9:16, 4:5, 1:1, 16:9, the same shape at another resolution, or your own width and height), choose how it fills the new shape, then press Resize video and download the MP4.

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. Your browser reads the video, draws every frame at the new size and saves the file, all on your device. Nothing is sent to us or anyone else.

How do I resize a video for Instagram?

Pick 4:5 (1080 × 1350) for a feed post, 9:16 (1080 × 1920) for a Reel or story, or 1:1 for a square post. Then crop it to fill, or keep the whole picture on a blurred background.

Can I resize a video without cropping it?

Yes. Choose Blurred background or Bars and the whole picture is kept, with a blurred copy of itself or a plain color filling the rest. Or pick Same shape to change only its resolution.

Does resizing a video make the file smaller?

Usually, when the new size has fewer pixels: 1280 × 720 has about half the pixels of 1920 × 1080. To hit an exact file size, for Discord or email, use the video compressor instead.

Is there a limit?

Up to 30 minutes at a time, and up to 3840 pixels a side. Every frame is redrawn and re-encoded, which takes about as long as the video plays on most computers, so a short part is quicker.

Clips that follow the speaker

Paste a YouTube link and Clyper finds the best moments, frames each one 9:16 on whoever is talking and captions every word: up to 30 clips from one video.
