More posts, more chances

A rate tells you how one post did; reach comes from posting often and learning what people stop for. Clyper turns one long video into a batch of captioned clips to test.

Typical rates are from the studies named, which count different interactions; each comparison counts yours the same way. Your own past posts are the best benchmark.

The engagement rate formula

By views: (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ views × 100. It says how many of the people who saw a post did something about it, and suits single videos, clips and campaigns.

By followers: the same interactions ÷ followers × 100, per post. It's how brand reports compare accounts, but on short-video apps it can top 100% when a post reaches far beyond the followers.

Rates fall as accounts grow, and they differ by industry, so your own past posts are the fairest comparison. For more, read how to make clips that go viral.

How to raise your engagement rate

Hook in the first second. People decide almost at once whether to stay, and only people who stay engage. Get opening lines from the hook generator.

Caption every word. Many people scroll with the sound off; captions keep them watching long enough to react. See how to caption short videos.

Post more, and learn. Each post is a test of a moment and an opening line. Posting often finds out faster what your audience stops for: see the best time to post.

Questions

How do you calculate engagement rate?

Add up a post's likes, comments, shares and saves, then divide by its views (engagement rate by views) or by the account's followers (by followers), and multiply by 100. 2,558 interactions on 48,200 views is 5.31%.

What is a good engagement rate on TikTok?

Big 2026 studies found typical TikTok rates of 2.01% to 2.60% by followers and about 4.20% by views. Above that is good; well above it is a post that's taking off.

What is a good engagement rate on Instagram?

Much lower than TikTok's by followers: typical Instagram rates in 2026 studies were 0.30% to 0.48%, because most followers never see a given post. Compare your reels with each other too.

Should I use views or followers?

Views, for a single video, and for clips and campaigns: on TikTok, Reels and Shorts most views come from people who don't follow you. Followers, to compare accounts with each other, which is how most brand reports do it.

Why are my numbers different from other calculators?

Each counts different interactions (some only likes and comments) and divides by a different number. This calculator shows yours counted the way each study counts, so the comparisons are fair.

Is the calculator free?

Yes, with nothing to sign up for, and what you type stays in your browser.
