Spikes Studio alternatives, compared

Spikes Studio is an AI clipper with a low yearly price and a free plan to start. People look elsewhere when the free plan isn't enough to judge it, or when they'd rather pay month to month. Here are the ten tools they weigh instead, with prices from their own sites. We make the first one.

Why people switch from Spikes Studio

Spikes Studio's free plan is for trying it out: its plan card lists demo clips at 720p with a watermark, and its FAQ up to 30 minutes of video a month. Its pricing page lists auto reframe, AI face tracking and animated captions from PRO+. So the free plan shows you less than the clips you'd actually post.

Billed yearly, PRO+ is good value: $0.0470 a minute of video. Month to month it's $32.99 for 300 minutes, $0.1100 a minute, and that's where most of the others come in cheaper.

Our pick: an AI clipping tool built for clippers

Clyper

Yes, we make it, so of course it's first. We'd put it there anyway: every plan, Starter included, frames each clip on whoever's talking, puts a stream's webcam over the game and captions every word in an animated style. Paste a link up to 4 hours long and get up to 30 clips ready to post.

Best for

  • Framing and animated captions on every plan, Starter included, with a stream's webcam over the game.
  • Less per minute month to month: $0.0950 on Clyper Pro, against $0.1100 on PRO+.
  • Clips cut on whole sentences, 20 to 60 seconds, each with a hook score.

Good to know

  • Billed yearly, PRO+ is a little cheaper per minute: $0.0470, against $0.0475 on Clyper Pro.
  • There's no free plan; Starter is $20 month to month.

Stream clipping tool

StreamLadder

Best for

  • Streamers clipping their own Twitch and Kick VODs: paste the VOD link, with unlimited AI clipping on Creator ($27 a month, $22.50 billed yearly).
  • A full clip editor with stickers, emotes and effects, posting and scheduling, a free plan for the editor and a 7-day trial.

Falls short on

  • Its AI clipping doesn't take YouTube links: its help center says YouTube VODs aren't supported, so you upload the file.
  • AI clipping starts with Creator; the free plan and Starter are the editor without it.

AI clipping tool

OpusClip

Best for

  • Creators clipping their own channel, with B-roll, brand templates, filler-word removal and scheduling in one app.
  • Long videos, up to 10 hours, and links from Zoom, Vimeo, Twitch, Kick and more, with a free plan to try it.

Falls short on

  • Before it clips a YouTube link, it asks you to confirm the channel is yours, so other creators' videos have to come in some other way.
  • Billed yearly, Pro comes to $0.0483 a minute, against $0.0475 on Clyper Pro.

AI clipping tool

Vizard

  • A low price per minute: $0.0242 on its yearly Creator plan.
  • A free plan to start with, and posting and scheduling to social apps.

Falls short on

  • Its FAQ lists 26 languages, where Clyper captions more than 50.

AI clipping tool, priced by the clip

Klap

Best for

  • Paying per clip instead of per minute of video.
  • 4K, B-roll, a brand kit and scheduling to five apps, with one video free to try.

Falls short on

  • Its pricing page was testing different prices and units when we checked.
  • Its docs put paid plans' limit at 3 hours a video.

AI clipping and scheduling tool, formerly vidyo.ai

quso.ai

  • Some built-in sounds are licensed for personal, non-commercial use only.

Video and podcast editor

Descript

Best for

  • Editing whole episodes through their transcript, as well as making clips.
  • Choosing how many clips (up to 20) and how long they run.

Falls short on

  • It works from uploaded files, not YouTube links.
  • A full editor to learn when all you need is clips.

How to choose

  1. Whose videos you clip. If it's other creators' YouTube videos, for campaigns, you need a tool that takes any public link. That narrows it fast.
  2. How much you'll clip. Work out the hours of video a month, then compare the price per minute, not the price per plan.
  3. How much you want to edit. Clips ready to post, or an editor to finish them in. Every step you add, you repeat on every clip.
  4. Try it on a real video. Use a free plan where there is one, or a month of the smallest plan, on the kind of video you'll actually clip.

Every tool, side by side: AI clipping tools compared. Clipping more than you can watch? Studio takes 10 links at once.

Questions

What is the best Spikes Studio alternative?

For clippers, Clyper: framing and animated captions come on every plan, clips are cut to whole sentences and scored, and month to month Clyper Pro costs less per minute than PRO+. For streamers clipping their own Twitch or Kick VODs by link, StreamLadder.

Is there a free alternative to Spikes Studio?

StreamLadder has a free clip editor (with a 7-day trial of its AI clipping); OpusClip has a free plan (60 minutes a month, with a watermark, and clips that can't be exported after 3 days); Vizard has a free plan (60 minutes a month at 720p, with a watermark); 2short.ai has a free plan (30 minutes a month); Klap has one video free to try; quso.ai has a free plan in some countries (75 minutes a month at 720p, with a watermark); Submagic has a free trial (3 short videos, with a watermark); CapCut has a free editor (if you cut each clip by hand); Descript has a free plan (1 hour of media at 720p, with a watermark). Clyper has no free plan; Starter is $20 month to month, so a month is enough to try it on your own videos.

Which Spikes Studio alternative is cheapest?

Per minute of video, the cheapest AI clipper here is 2short.ai: $0.0166 on Premium and $0.0221 on Pro, month to month. Billed yearly, Vizard's Creator is $0.0242 and quso.ai's Growth $0.0408 (a Halloween offer, for yearly plans bought by November 1, 2026); Spikes Studio's own PRO+ is $0.0470 and Clyper Pro $0.0475. Month to month, Clyper Pro is $0.0950 against $0.1100 on PRO+. Descript's media hours come to less, $0.0133 a minute on its yearly Creator plan, but they're hours in its editor, for files you upload rather than links, and its AI features use AI credits on top.

Why do people switch from Spikes Studio?

Mostly the free plan, which is for trying it out (demo clips, and up to 30 minutes of video a month, at 720p with a watermark), with auto reframe, face tracking and animated captions kept for PRO+. Then the month-to-month price, which is higher per minute than most of the list.

Does Clyper take Twitch or Kick links?

No. It takes YouTube links and uploads: download the replay and upload the file (MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV, up to 4 GB and 4 hours). Clyper finds the webcam and stacks it over the game by itself. It finds moments in what's said, so it suits streams with commentary.

Which Spikes Studio alternatives take YouTube links?

Clyper, Vizard, Klap, 2short.ai and quso.ai take YouTube links. Submagic does with its Magic Clips add-on. OpusClip does once you confirm the YouTube channel is yours. StreamLadder's AI clipping takes Twitch and Kick links, and YouTube videos as uploaded files. CapCut and Descript work from uploaded files.
