Video size checker for TikTok, Reels and Shorts

Check a video against what TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts take: its shape, size, length, frame rate and file. See what's fine, what's worth fixing and how, before you post. Free, and nothing is uploaded.

An example: a podcast video

Or drop it on the phone. Only its details are read, on your device: nothing is uploaded.

Sizes and limits on each app

All three apps fill a phone's screen with a vertical 9:16 video, and 1080 × 1920 is that shape in full HD: the size to export for all of them. Beyond that, each has its own limits.

The specs are from each app's help pages, read on October 11, 2026: they're listed under the questions below. Where an app gives two numbers, as TikTok does for the app and the web, the checker tells you both.

What matters most

The shape. A horizontal video on a vertical screen is a strip across the middle: a 16:9 video fills about 32% of it. Crop it to 9:16 with the vertical video converter, and keep what matters clear of the apps' buttons with the safe zone checker.

The length. Over 3 minutes, a video can't be a Short and won't be recommended on Reels. Most clips that work run 20 to 60 seconds anyway: one moment, from its hook to its payoff. More in how long a clip should be.

Sharpness. Instagram shows blurry and low-resolution reels less often. Export at 1080 × 1920 from the best copy you have: enlarging a small video doesn't add detail.

When the video is too long

A podcast episode, a stream or an interview won't fit any of the three as it is, and it shouldn't: on a feed, people watch moments, not episodes. The way to post it is as clips of its best moments, each vertical and captioned.

That's what Clyper does with a YouTube link or an upload: it finds the moments worth posting, cuts each to whole sentences, frames it on whoever's talking and captions every word, for up to 30 clips per video. Each comes out at 1080 × 1920, ready for all three apps.

Questions

What size is a TikTok video?

TikTok fills the screen with a vertical 9:16 video, and 1080 × 1920 is that shape in full HD. It takes other shapes too, shown smaller. On the web, it takes MP4 or WebM files of 720 × 1280 or more, under 10 GB.

What size is an Instagram Reel?

Reels fill the screen at 9:16, so export them at 1080 × 1920. Instagram takes reels from 1.91:1 to 9:16, at least 720 pixels and 30 frames a second.

What size is a YouTube Short?

A Short is a square or vertical video up to 3 minutes long, and 9:16 at 1080 × 1920 fills the screen. YouTube posts a horizontal video, or one over 3 minutes, as a regular video instead.

How long can a TikTok, Reel or Short be?

TikTok takes uploads of up to 60 minutes in the app (30 on the web) and records up to 10. Reels can be up to 20 minutes, but Instagram doesn't recommend reels over 3 minutes to people who don't follow you. Shorts are up to 3 minutes.

Can I post a horizontal video on TikTok or Reels?

Yes, but a 16:9 video fills only about 32% of a phone's screen, and a horizontal video can't be a Short. Crop it to 9:16 with the vertical video converter, or, if it's a long video, turn its best moments into vertical clips.

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. The checker reads the file's details (its size, length, frame rate and format) in your browser. The video never leaves your device.
