How to become a Twitch Affiliate: requirements and onboarding

To become a Twitch Affiliate, you need 25 followers, 4 hours streamed on 4 different days, and an average of 3 viewers on 4 of those days, all within 30 days, with two-factor authentication on. Then Twitch invites you and you finish a short onboarding. Here's how Twitch counts each requirement, every onboarding step, what Affiliate adds, how long it takes, a 30-day plan, and Affiliate vs Partner.

Updated 13 min read

In short

  • Twitch Affiliate requirements: 25 followers, 4 hours streamed, 4 different stream days, and 3 average viewers on 4 days, all in the same 30 days. Two-factor authentication is required.
  • "3 average viewers" means people watching at the same time, signed in or not. Days below 3 don't count against you; chatbots don't count at all.
  • Twitch emails an invite, typically 24 to 48 hours after you qualify (up to 72). Onboarding has three steps: 2FA, your account details and the Monetized Streamer Agreement, then tax interviews and a payout method.
  • Anyone can turn on subs and Bits now, but only Affiliates and Partners get paid out. Affiliate adds payouts, 55% of net ad revenue (at 3 ad minutes an hour), the Plus Program and 14-day VODs.
  • The hard part is the viewers and followers, not the hours. Clips on TikTok, Shorts and Reels bring in people who would never find a small stream on Twitch.

Twitch Affiliate requirements in 2026

To become a Twitch Affiliate you complete four achievements, listed under Path to Affiliate on the Achievements page of your Creator Dashboard. You have to complete all four within the same 30 days, and here's how Twitch counts each one:

The four Twitch Affiliate requirements in 2026, and how Twitch counts them, from Twitch's help center
RequirementWhat countsWhat doesn't
25 followersEveryone following your channel. Progress keeps building however long it takesNothing is lost, but if you gain no new follower in 180 days the goal shows 0/25 until your next one
Stream for 4 hoursTime live in the last 30 daysStreams older than 30 days
Stream on 4 different daysDays you went live, counted in GMTA second stream on the same GMT day
3 average viewers on 4 daysDays when your stream averaged 3 or more people watching at the same time, signed in or notDays under 3 (they don't count against you), total views, and chatbots like Nightbot
  • The same 30 days. Twitch's own example: hit the viewers on day 5 and the 4 hours on day 35, and you don't qualify, because the two weren't in one 30-day window. A checkmark shows which ones you've completed inside it.
  • Average viewers is concurrent. Twitch checks how many people are watching at each moment you're live and averages it over the stream. So if 6 friends each watch one hour of a 2-hour stream, that stream averaged 3. The same people spread over a stream twice as long would average half that.
  • Age and country. The program is open worldwide. At 13 to 17 you can join with a parent or guardian's consent and supervision: they agree to the Monetized Streamer Agreement for you.
  • No shortcuts. Twitch's Community Guidelines ban viewership tampering, such as artificially inflating follows or live viewers, so viewbots and bought followers put the account at risk.

The bar is lower than it was. Until June 2025 Affiliates needed 50 followers, 8 hours on 7 days and an average of 3 viewers across all their streams. Twitch said averaging every stream put streamers who streamed more at a disadvantage, whatever their audience, so now only 4 good days count. Achievements can take up to 48 hours to update. If you're still setting up, start with how to start streaming.

How to become a Twitch Affiliate, step by step

  1. Turn on two-factor authentication now. Twitch recommends it even before you qualify, so nothing holds you up later. You need a phone number for it.
  2. Optionally, set up monetization early. Any streamer can accept the Monetized Streamer Agreement under Creator Dashboard, Monetization, Setup and turn on subs, Bits, emotes and Channel Points. That money can only be spent on Twitch until you're an Affiliate, but your details carry over to Affiliate onboarding.
  3. Meet the four requirements in one 30-day window, and watch them on the Achievements page (its View 30-day stats button shows the window).
  4. Get the invite. Twitch sends an email and a Twitch notification, typically 24 to 48 hours after you qualify and sometimes up to 72. You don't need the email: a Get Started button appears on your Path to Affiliate achievement, and onboarding is under Creator Dashboard, Monetization, Affiliate. Nothing after 72 hours? Check that all four are in one 30-day window, that your email is verified, and your spam folder; then contact Twitch Support.
  5. Finish the three onboarding steps below. All three must be complete before you can earn as an Affiliate.

StepWhat it asks forHow long
1. Two-factor authenticationA phone number and a verification codeAlready done if you turned it on
2. Account detailYour legal full name (as on your tax documents), email, a business name (optional), country of residence, date of birth, and agreeing to the Monetized Streamer AgreementA few minutes; carried over if you set up monetization before
3a. Tax interviewsUsually a Royalty and a Service tax interview, plus DAC7 in the EU or Canada's in Canada, on Amazon Tax Central (Twitch is part of Amazon): your tax classification, residency and tax IDValidation typically 24 to 48 hours, up to 72; stuck ones can take 2 to 3 weeks and can't be sped up
3b. Payout methodDirect deposit (ACH), check, wire, PayPal or Hold Payouts, depending on your region. It may also ask for a scan of a government IDVerification up to 48 hours

Twitch says the whole thing can take as little as 10 minutes. Have your legal name, date of birth, country, payout details and tax ID ready before you start. When it's done you'll see “Welcome to the Affiliate fam!”

What Twitch Affiliate gets you, and what it doesn't

Since Twitch's Monetization for All rollout (in the US in 2025, worldwide from May 13, 2026), subs, Bits, emotes, badges, Channel Points, polls and Hype Trains are open to any streamer who finishes monetization setup. What's earned that way goes to a Spendable Balance, which only buys things on Twitch. Affiliate adds:

  • Payouts. Real money, paid on a Net 15 schedule: a month's earnings go out from the 15th of the next month once you're owed $50 ($100 by wire). Affiliates pay the payout fees. Twitch's pages give different cutoffs for changing your payout details: its payout FAQ says changes after the 8th miss that month's payout, and edits between the 6th and the 15th can delay it; its onboarding guide says to make them before the 10th. To be safe, make changes before the 6th.
  • Ads. 55% of net ad revenue, when you run at least 3 minutes of mid-roll ads an hour in Ads Manager.
  • The Plus Program. A 60% or 70% share of sub revenue instead of 50%, at 100 or 300 Plus Points a month from recurring paid subs, three months in a row.
  • Emotes that work everywhere. A monetized streamer who isn't an Affiliate or Partner can't use their channel emotes outside their own channel; an Affiliate's emotes work across Twitch.
  • Video: past broadcasts kept 14 days instead of 7, uploads, channel trailers, subscriber-only VODs and streams, and priority access to quality options (transcodes).
  • More tools: Bits in Extensions, Goals and Charity, a sponsorship profile, Twitch's Creator Sponsorships once you complete its Creator Sponsorship Certification, and third-party campaigns.

What Affiliate doesn't do: none of its features bring you viewers, it doesn't raise your sub share by itself, and Partner features stay Partner only: custom Cheermotes, the verified badge, 60-day VODs, full access to transcodes, prioritized support and Twitch covering payout fees.

What it pays. At the standard 50% share, a $5.99 US Tier 1 sub pays you about $3.00 before taxes and fees, a Prime sub a fixed $2.25 in the US, and a Bit 1 cent. Put your own numbers into the Twitch money calculator to see a month and a year, and read how much Twitch pays for the details. Then make your first emote: Twitch says new Affiliates whose subs come with emotes average three times as many subscribers. Your first 10 subscribers get a Founders badge.

How long does it take to become a Twitch Affiliate?

Twitch doesn't publish a typical time, and the figures online come from someone's own channel. It depends mostly on one thing. The hours and days are easy: streaming 3 times a week, you pass 4 hours on 4 days in under two weeks. The followers and the 3 average viewers depend on people finding you, and that's where channels differ.

The fastest it can go, from Twitch's own numbers: 4 stream days with 3 average viewers each and 25 followers, then an invite 24 to 48 hours later, about 10 minutes of onboarding, and 24 to 48 hours for the tax forms. That's about a week, but only for someone who already has an audience, such as a creator moving from another platform.

What decides it for everyone else:

  • Whether anyone can see you. Sorted by viewers, a huge category's Browse page puts a new stream below thousands of others. The Research page in your analytics shows the best days and times to stream in a category (Time to Stream), and some channels get Category Suggestions, a test that estimates where you'd show up in a game category's Browse list.
  • Whether people stay. The average is over the whole stream. A shorter stream that people watch together beats a long one they drift in and out of.
  • Whether people come back. A schedule turns one visit into a follower who returns, which is what fills the 4 days.
  • Whether you're found off Twitch. Clips on TikTok, Shorts and Reels reach people who would never browse your category. That's the subject of the last section.

A 30-day plan to reach Twitch Affiliate

This plan assumes 3 streams a week of about 2 hours, at the same times each week, in one category: about 12 streams and 24 hours in 30 days, far more than the 4 hours and 4 days you need. Those numbers are assumptions; use whatever schedule you can keep. The work goes into the 3 average viewers and the 25 followers.

Not there on day 30? Nothing resets: the window rolls, and each new day that reaches 3 average viewers counts. Change one thing at a time (a time slot, a category, how many clips you post) and give it a couple of weeks. More on schedules, raids and analytics is in how to grow on Twitch.

Twitch Affiliate vs Partner

Partner is the next level, and the gap is big: 75 average viewers instead of 3, and an application instead of an invite. You can't be both. Side by side, from Twitch's help center:

For Partner, streams under 75 average viewers don't count toward the 6, and viewers from front-page promotion or embeds don't count at all. Twitch says streamers who steadily draw 70 to 80 viewers are more likely to get in than ones who swing between 20 and 200, and it may accept channels outside the criteria for exceptional growth or an established audience on other platforms. It also looks at suspension history. If you're invited, Partner onboarding is shorter: your details and payout method carry over.

Growing past Affiliate: get found off Twitch

Every step after Affiliate (more subs, the Plus Program, Partner) takes more people watching. Twitch's own discovery mostly shows you to people already browsing your category or following you. Short clips on TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Reels don't wait for either: those feeds pick videos by what people watch, not who they follow, so a clip can reach people who would never find you on Twitch. A play, a reaction or a story told to chat, with your channel name and schedule on it, is a sample of the stream.

By hand, that's watching hours of VOD again for the moments, then cutting, laying out and captioning each one, every stream. That's the part Clyper does. Upload the VOD you downloaded (MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV, up to 4 GB and 4 hours), or export it to YouTube and paste the link; Clyper doesn't take Twitch links. It reads the transcript, picks the best moments and cuts each on whole sentences, scores each clip's hook, stacks the webcam over the game (the top 1080 × 608), frames you alone in just chatting, and captions every word. You get 1080 × 1920 MP4s with no watermark, and post them yourself. More in stream clips with Clyper and Twitch VOD to clips.

Questions

How many followers do you need to be a Twitch Affiliate?

25, together with 4 hours streamed on 4 different days and an average of 3 viewers on 4 days, all within 30 days. Until June 2025 it was 50 followers.

How long does it take to get the Twitch Affiliate invite?

Typically 24 to 48 hours after you meet all four requirements, sometimes up to 72. You can also start onboarding from the Get Started button on your Path to Affiliate achievement without waiting for the email.

Do lurkers count toward 3 average viewers?

Yes. Anyone watching the live stream counts as a viewer, whether or not they chat or are signed in. Chatbots connected only to your chat don't count.

Do you need to be an Affiliate to get subs on Twitch?

No: any streamer who accepts the Monetized Streamer Agreement can turn on subs and Bits. But until you're an Affiliate or Partner, that money can only be spent on Twitch, not paid out.

Can you be a Twitch Affiliate under 18?

Yes, from 13. A parent or legal guardian has to agree to the Monetized Streamer Agreement for you during onboarding and supervise your monetization.

How much does a Twitch Affiliate make?

It depends on subs, Bits and ads. A US Tier 1 sub pays about $3.00 before taxes and fees, a Bit pays 1 cent, and ads pay 55% of net ad revenue at 3 minutes an hour. The Twitch money calculator adds up a month.
