How to grow on Twitch and get more viewers

To grow on Twitch, you need to be easy to find where viewers look (categories, tags, recommendations and the mobile app's discovery feed), keep a schedule they can rely on, and bring in people from outside Twitch, which is where clips do the most work. Here's how people find streams on Twitch now, what to stream and when, raids and collabs, growing off Twitch, what Affiliate and Partner take in 2026, and the analytics to check after every stream.

In short

  • Viewers find live channels on Twitch through Browse (by category and tag), recommendations on the home page, the mobile app's discovery feed of live previews and clips, raids from other streamers, and go-live notifications.
  • To get more viewers on Twitch, pick a category where your stream can be seen, use all 10 tags, keep a posted schedule, and check the Time to Stream panel in your analytics for when to go live.
  • Feature your best clips after every stream: Twitch prioritizes Featured Clips in its discovery feed. Raid and collaborate with streamers your size.
  • The biggest lever is off Twitch: vertical clips on TikTok, Shorts and Reels, and full streams and highlights on YouTube, reach people Twitch never shows you to.
  • Affiliate takes 25 followers and 3 average viewers within 30 days; Partner takes 75 average viewers on 6 streams in each of two 30-day periods, and an application.

How people find streams on Twitch now

Growing on Twitch starts with knowing where viewers come from. Twitch publishes which signals its recommendations use (a viewer's device, engagement with Twitch, language, login state, region and watch history), not how it weighs them, and live channels are usually ranked above offline ones. Here's each place a new viewer can find you, from Twitch's own pages:

Most of these show you to people already on Twitch, browsing your category, or following you. The discovery feed and clips are the exception: they can put you in front of someone while you're offline, which is why the clip sections below matter as much as the live ones.

What to stream on Twitch, and when

Pick a category where you can be seen. In a huge category sorted by viewer count, a stream with 5 viewers sits below thousands of others. In a smaller one, it can be on the first screen. That doesn't mean an empty category: you want one people browse, where you're not the 3,000th stream. The Research page in your analytics shows Twitch-wide data for planning, including a Time to Stream panel with the best days and times to stream in a category.

Stream one thing, steadily. A viewer who liked Tuesday's stream comes back on Thursday expecting the same kind of thing. Twitch's own Partner guidance says streamers who steadily draw 70 to 80 average viewers are more likely to get an invite than ones who swing between 20 and 200: consistency counts.

  • Titles should say what's happening right now (“Ranked to Diamond, day 12”, “First try at the final boss”), because they sit next to your thumbnail everywhere on Twitch.
  • Tags: change them each stream, in Stream Manager's Edit Stream Info. Don't spend one on the game (the category is added for you) or your language (that's automatic). Use the rest for what makes your stream different: NoBackseating, Speedrun, Cozy. Join words with capitals, since tags can't have spaces.
  • A schedule in Creator Dashboard, Settings, Channel, Schedule. It shows on the Following page and in search results; cancel single streams when you must, and use Vacation Mode for a break.
  • A go-live notification with a reason to come, up to 140 characters, in Edit Stream Info. Leave it blank and followers get “User is now live”. You can send one per 4-hour broadcast session, so get it right before you start.

Twitch clips, Featured Clips and the discovery feed

Twitch says clips are a way for new viewers to find you even when you're not live, and it gives you some control over which ones it shows:

  • Feature clips after every stream. Twitch's discovery surfaces put Featured Clips ahead of others, and favor recent, engaging ones; the Clips feed in the mobile app does too. There's no limit on how many you feature, and the Clips Manager lets you select 20 at a time. Your editors can feature clips, and your moderators if you allow it.
  • Give clips real titles. The Clips Manager's Recommended filter shows clips saved with a unique title, which Twitch says get more views than ones without.
  • Set the portrait layout. Portrait clips can show in the feed. Edit one clip's layout (webcam stacked over the game, or one full frame) and Twitch uses it for your future clips.
  • Post a Stream Recap. After each stream, Twitch picks your top clips; add them to your Story from the Stream Summary, and they show in your followers' Stories and Live feed for 48 hours. Twitch limits posting Stories to “qualified monetized streamers,” so you may not see the option on a brand-new channel.
  • Make clipping easy. Let viewers clip, and clip yourself as it happens. Twitch clips run up to 60 seconds; how to make, lay out and share them is in how to clip on Twitch.

The On-Demand Content tab of your Discovery analytics shows where your clip views came from, on and off Twitch, so you can see whether the feed is working for you.

Raids, collabs and Shared Chat

Other streamers are the one audience on Twitch that already watches live. Three tools connect you, and all three are open to everyone:

  • Raids. At the end of your stream, type /raid and a channel name, and everyone in your chat is sent to that channel (each viewer can opt out). Not sure who? /raidbrowser, or the Raid Channel quick action, lists live channels you can filter by Same Category, Following, Raided You (the last 30 days) and Similar or Similar Size. Raid streamers your size in your category: their viewers already like what you stream. The Raided You filter shows who has raided you, for when you want to return the favor.
  • Stream Together. Stream with other streamers across your channels, or bring guests onto yours. The host needs broadcast software like OBS and a browser. Twitch lists it as in beta.
  • Shared Chat. In a Stream Together session, the host can merge everyone's chats into one, so both communities talk to each other. Guests must be live to join it, and can leave it any time.

To find collab partners, the Engagement page in your analytics shows how your viewers engage with other content across Twitch, which Twitch suggests for finding streamers to collab with or a new category to try. You can also apply to Twitch's Creator Clubs, Discord communities for creators in the same niche, open to all creators, not just Partners. Your analytics' Raid Viewers stat then shows how much of your audience came from raids.

Growing off Twitch: TikTok, Shorts, Reels, YouTube and Discord

Everything above shows you to people who are already on Twitch, and mostly while you're live. Clips on TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Reels don't wait for either: those feeds show videos by what people watch, not who they follow, so a good moment from your stream can reach people who have never opened Twitch. That makes them the biggest lever a small streamer has. Twitch's Discovery analytics split your viewers into sources outside Twitch (social and video sites) and inside it, so you can see it working.

  • Post short clips from every stream: a reaction, a play, a story told to chat. Lay them out for a phone, with the webcam stacked over the game and captions on every word; the free split screen video maker does the layout for one clip. Which moments work is in how to clip streams.
  • Post from Twitch, or post your own edit. Twitch's Share menu posts a clip straight to YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat. Your own edit can be cut tighter and captioned.
  • Put your Twitch name and schedule in every caption and bio, so a viewer who finds you on a Wednesday knows to come on Thursday.
  • Put full streams and highlights on YouTube. Twitch deletes past broadcasts after 7 days (14 for Affiliates; 60 for Partners, Prime and Turbo users). Connect YouTube on your Twitch Connections page and use Export in the Video Producer; verify your YouTube account first, or it won't take videos over 15 minutes. On YouTube a stream keeps being found in search. Add chapters with the YouTube timestamp generator, which marks them as the stream plays in YouTube's player and checks them against YouTube's rules, and a thumbnail from a frame of the stream with the YouTube thumbnail maker. Getting VOD files is in how to download Twitch VODs.
  • Start a Discord server for your community between streams: post your schedule, your go-live, and the clips. The free video compressor makes a clip small enough for Discord.

Twitch also lets you stream on other platforms at the same time, under its Simulcasting Guidelines: the Twitch stream can't be worse than the others, and you can't use Twitch to send viewers to your live stream elsewhere.

The work is in the clipping. Finding three good moments in a four-hour VOD means watching it again, then cutting, laying out and captioning each one, every stream. Clyper does that part from the VOD. Upload the file you downloaded from the Video Producer (MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV, up to 4 GB and 4 hours; split a bigger file with the free video splitter), or export the stream to YouTube and paste its link. Clyper doesn't take Twitch links. It reads the transcript, picks the best moments and cuts each on whole sentences, gives every clip a hook score, stacks the webcam over the game (the top 1080 × 608), frames you alone in just chatting, and captions every word. You download 1080 × 1920 MP4s with no watermark, and post them yourself. More in stream clips with Clyper.

Twitch Affiliate and Partner: what they take in 2026

Since Twitch opened monetization to everyone, any streamer who accepts the Monetized Streamer Agreement can turn on subs and Bits, but only Affiliates and Partners are paid out. The levels, from Twitch's help center:

Partner6 streams on 6 days averaging 75 viewers in the last 30 days, and again in the 30 before. Then apply: entry isn't guaranteedPast broadcasts kept 60 days, guaranteed quality options for viewers, a verified badge, priority support
  • “Average viewers” means concurrent viewers, people watching at the same time, not views. Days under 3 don't count against you, and chatbots don't count as viewers. Progress is in your Creator Dashboard under Achievements, counted in GMT.
  • Affiliate invites usually arrive 24 to 48 hours after you qualify, sometimes up to 72.
  • For Partner, streams under 75 average viewers don't count toward the 6, and viewers from front-page promotion or embeds don't count at all. Twitch may accept applications outside the criteria for exceptional growth or an established audience on other platforms.
  • The Plus Program is open to Affiliates and Partners: a 60% sub share at 100 Plus Points a month and 70% at 300, each for 3 months in a row, earned from recurring paid subs. What each level pays is in how much Twitch pays.

Read your Twitch analytics

Your analytics are in the Creator Dashboard. Twitch removed channel page views from Stream Manager in 2022 as misleading, and points to average viewers, minutes watched, follows and unique chatters instead. What to check, and when:

  • After every stream: the Stream Summary. It's ready within 15 minutes and compares the stream with your last one. Its Viewer Engagement panel shows which moments brought follows and subs, when clips were made and when viewers peaked: those are the moments to clip and post. It also lists your top clips (export them to TikTok and YouTube, or post a Recap), how viewers found the stream, and how many followers tapped your go-live notification. Twitch keeps your last 30.
  • Every week: Overview. Average viewers is the number Affiliate and Partner use. Watch it next to unique viewers, follows, raid viewers and clip views.
  • Every month: Discovery. Where viewers came from, outside Twitch and inside it; which tags brought views and impressions; and where your viewers are and what they watch on. If clips on TikTok are sending people, post more of them.
  • When planning: Research and Engagement, for the Time to Stream panel and for the channels and categories your viewers also watch.
  • Achievements shows your progress toward Affiliate and Partner over the last 30 days.

Change one thing at a time (a time slot, a category, how many clips you post) and give it a few weeks, so you can tell what moved the numbers.

Questions

How do I get more viewers on Twitch?

Stream on a schedule in a category where you can be seen, use your tags, feature clips after every stream so they show in the discovery feed, raid and collaborate with streamers your size, and post vertical clips on TikTok, Shorts and Reels to reach people off Twitch.

What is the best time to stream on Twitch?

It depends on your category and where your viewers are. The Research page in your Twitch analytics has a Time to Stream panel for each category, and your Discovery analytics show which countries your viewers watch from.

Do raids help you grow on Twitch?

Yes, they send another streamer's chat to your channel, and raiding streamers your size is how many small channels meet. Your analytics' Raid Viewers stat shows how much of your audience comes from raids.

How many tags can you use on Twitch?

Up to 10 custom tags per stream, each up to 25 characters with no spaces. Your category and your stream's language are added for you, so don't spend tags on them.

How many viewers do you need to become a Twitch Partner?

An average of 75 viewers on at least 6 streams in the last 30 days, and again in the 30 days before, to unlock the application. Twitch reviews each one, and entry isn't guaranteed.

Can I stream on Twitch and YouTube at the same time?

Yes, under Twitch's Simulcasting Guidelines, unless you have an exclusivity agreement with Twitch. The Twitch stream can't be worse than the others, and you can't use Twitch to send viewers to your live stream elsewhere.
