Turn Twitch VODs into vertical clips
Download a past broadcast from Twitch's Video Producer and upload it here. Clyper finds the moments where you react, tell a story or answer the chat, stacks your webcam over the game and captions every word. A whole stream is a big file, so here's how to fit it under 4 GB too.

How to download a Twitch VOD
There's only a VOD to download if Twitch saved the stream: Store past broadcasts has to be on (Creator Dashboard, Settings, Stream) before you go live, and Twitch says you can only turn it on in a browser, not in the mobile app. Then you have 7 days to download it, 14 as an Affiliate and 60 as a Partner or a Prime or Turbo user. On the web:
- 1Go to your Creator Dashboard, open the Content menu and choose Video Producer. Pick Past Broadcasts in the drop-down above the list to see only whole streams.
- 2Click the three vertical dots next to the stream and choose Download. On a long stream, Twitch notes, the download can take a while to start.
- 3The file saves to your browser's downloads folder, and it's the whole stream, so it's big: about 2.7 GB an hour at 6,000 kbps (Twitch's recommended bitrate for 1080p at 60 fps), so anything over about 88 minutes is past 4 GB.
- 4Under 4 GB and 4 hours? Upload it with the button above. Bigger, split it into parts first (see below): each part is its own upload.
- 5Muted stays muted. If Twitch's Audio Recognition muted part of the VOD, the download is silent there too, and Clyper has nothing to find in a silent stretch.
- 6Only the channel's owner and its Editors can download its VODs, and Twitch's terms don't allow downloading from Twitch except where Twitch offers it. Clipping for a streamer? Get the file or the Editor role from them, and clip only streamers who've asked for clips (see is clipping legal?).
No time to download? Connect YouTube on your Twitch Connections page and use Export in the Video Producer instead. Verify your YouTube account first (it only takes videos over 15 minutes from verified ones), set the video to Unlisted in YouTube Studio, and paste its link above: no file and no 4 GB limit, though the 4-hour limit still applies. The rest, from storage limits to Highlights, is in how to download Twitch VODs.
How it works
- 1
Add the VOD
Upload the file from Twitch, or each part of a long one: up to 4 GB and 4 hours a file.
- 2
Get the clips
Clyper reads the stream's transcript, picks the moments that stand on their own, stacks your webcam over the game and captions them.
- 3
Post them
Check each clip in the editor, download 1080 × 1920 MP4s with no watermark, and post them to TikTok, Shorts and Reels.
What you get
- Webcam over the gameYour webcam goes across the top at 1080 × 608, with the middle of the game below.
- Found by what you sayReactions, stories, hot takes and answers to the chat: the moments you talk through.
- Cut on whole sentencesEach clip runs 20 to 60 seconds and never starts or ends mid-word.
- Captions on the seamWord by word, between the webcam and the game, clear of the apps' buttons.
- Scored for the hookEvery clip gets a hook score, so you post the strongest first.
- Parts work tooEach part of a long VOD is its own video, with its own clips: up to 30 from each.
“Tripled our client load without hiring anyone. Clyper is basically a second team.”
A VOD over 4 GB: split it into parts
A VOD's size is its bitrate times its length, so a higher bitrate makes a bigger file. Say you streamed for 4 hours at 6,000 kbps: that's about 10.8 GB, or 3 parts of 80 minutes.
- Open the free video splitter on a computer and choose the VOD. It runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.
- Choose equal parts (2 to 20): the file's size in GB divided by 4, rounded up, and at least one part per 4 hours. Or mark the cuts yourself at a break or a “be right back,” so no moment is cut in half.
- Keep the shape As it is with no part numbers, so the parts are copied without re-encoding. Download them one at a time (a ZIP holds up to 4 GB) and upload each.
Parts cost about what the whole would (a credit a minute, at least 10 a part), and each gets its own clips, up to one per 2 minutes and 30 in all.
The video compressor suits a file just over the limit: type 4,000 in its Custom size (MB). A 2.5-hour 1080p30 stream at 4,500 kbps (about 5.1 GB) keeps its 1080p picture. Squeeze a 4-hour 1080p60 stream into 4 GB, though, and it drops to 540p, which makes soft clips, after re-encoding every frame on your computer. How to compress a video explains the trade.
What Clyper picks from a stream, and what it misses
Clyper finds moments by what's said: the play you scream about, the story you tell between rounds, the take you give the chat. A silent clutch play isn't in the transcript, so it won't be picked. Clip those on Twitch as they happen, or mark them with /marker and cut them from the VOD by hand.
For the stacked layout, Clyper needs a webcam: the only face on screen, small, steady and in a corner, for most of the clip. Two face cams, or a just chatting stream, get the normal vertical crop on whoever's talking. More on stream clips with Clyper.
Twitch's own clips and Highlights, and where Clyper fits
Twitch has good tools of its own. Viewers can clip up to 60 seconds of a stream or VOD, Twitch makes a portrait version of every clip with the webcam and game in frame, and you can post clips straight to TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and Snapchat. Highlights keep the parts of a VOD you choose past its expiry, within 100 hours of storage. And Auto Clips, in an invite-only alpha for English-language channels, picks moments from a transcript too. See how to clip on Twitch.
Clyper fits when you want a batch from the whole VOD at once, to download and post on your own accounts: up to 30 captioned clips per upload, cut to whole sentences and laid out for a phone. How to grow on Twitch covers where they bring viewers from.
What it costs
A credit is a minute of video, so a plan is how much video you can clip in a month, however many clips it makes. A four-hour stream uses 240 credits, whole or in parts, and gives up to 30 clips per upload.

Questions
Can I turn a Twitch VOD into TikToks?
Yes. Download the past broadcast from your Video Producer and upload it to Clyper (up to 4 GB and 4 hours a file). It finds the moments you talk through, stacks your webcam over the game, captions every word and gives you 1080 × 1920 MP4s to post.
Can Clyper clip a Twitch link or connect to my Twitch account?
No. Clyper takes uploaded files and YouTube links, with no Twitch connection. Download the VOD and upload it, or export it to YouTube from the Video Producer and paste that link.
How big is a downloaded Twitch VOD?
About its bitrate times its length. At 6,000 kbps, Twitch's recommended bitrate for 1080p at 60 fps, that's about 2.7 GB an hour, so a 4-hour stream is about 10.8 GB.
What if my VOD is over 4 GB or 4 hours?
Split it into equal parts with the free video splitter, keeping the shape as it is so nothing is re-encoded, and upload each part. Or export it to YouTube and paste the link, which skips the 4 GB limit (the 4-hour one still applies).
How long do Twitch VODs last?
60 days for Partners, Prime and Turbo users, 14 for Affiliates and 7 for everyone else. Download the ones you want to clip in the first week.
Will Clyper find my best plays?
The ones you talk through, yes: it picks moments from the transcript. A play with no commentary isn't in it, so clip those on Twitch or by hand.
