Turn Google Drive videos into short clips
Share the video so anyone with the link can view it, then paste the link. Clyper downloads it straight from Drive, up to 10 GB with no upload to wait for, finds the moments worth posting, frames whoever's talking and captions every word.
How to share a Drive video so Clyper can open it
Clyper opens a Drive link the way someone who isn't signed in to Google would, so the video has to be shared with Anyone with the link. Viewer is enough: Clyper only downloads the file, and it can't see anything else in your Drive. On a computer:
- 1Put the video in Drive. On drive.google.com, click New, then File upload, and choose it. Already there, like a Google Meet recording or a file someone shared with you? Go on to the next step.
- 2Share the file, not its folder. Select the video and click Share. A folder's link won't work: Clyper needs the link to one video file.
- 3Open it to anyone with the link. Under General access, click the down arrow and choose Anyone with the link, with the role left on Viewer. A Restricted link, or one for Your organization, only opens for people signed in with access, and Clyper never signs in.
- 4Copy the link. Click Copy link, then Done. It looks like
drive.google.com/file/d/1aBcD.../view?usp=sharing. - 5Paste it above. Over 4 hours? Turn on Clip part of the video and type the From and To times, like 1:05:00 to 3:05:00: only that part uses credits.
- 6On a phone? In the Drive app, tap More next to the video, then Manage access. Under General access, tap Change on Android, or the arrow on an iPhone or iPad, and choose Anyone with the link. Then copy the file's link and paste it above.
On a work or school account? Google says your administrator may restrict sharing links outside your organization, so Anyone with the link may not be there. Then download the video and upload it (up to 4 GB), or ask your admin. And if the owner stopped viewers from downloading (in Share, then Settings), Clyper can't download it either: turn downloading back on for viewers.
How it works
- 1
Share the video
With Anyone with the link, as Viewer, then Copy link: a drive.google.com/file/d/ link to one video file.
- 2
Paste the link
Clyper downloads the file from Drive, up to 10 GB, and clips up to 4 hours of it at a time.
- 3
Post the clips
Check each one in the editor, then download 1080 × 1920 MP4s with no watermark for TikTok, Reels, Shorts and LinkedIn.
What you get
- Nothing to uploadClyper fetches the file from Drive itself, so there's no upload to wait for and no tab to keep open.
- Up to 10 GBUploads stop at 4 GB. From a Drive link, a bigger 1080p or 4K recording goes in as it is.
- Long videos, part by partOver 4 hours? Pick a From and a To time. Only that part uses credits, with up to 30 clips from it.
- On whoever's talkingEach clip follows the speaker, switches when someone else takes over and stacks a streamer's webcam over the game.
- Every word captionedIn the video's language, 50+ supported, above the apps' usernames and captions.
- Only that one fileClyper never signs in to your Drive. It opens the file the link opens, and deletes it once your clips are made.
“Tripled our client load without hiring anyone. Clyper is basically a second team.”
Dan Reyes, Lowkey Media · 9 clientsWhich Drive links work, and which don't
Clyper takes the link to one video file in Drive, shared with anyone who has it: the drive.google.com/file/d/... link Copy link gives you, and older drive.google.com/open?id=... links too. The file can be an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV with sound, from a minute long and up to 10 GB.
- A folder's link: open the folder, select the video in it and copy that file's link. Clyper tells you when you've pasted a folder.
- Restricted, or Your organization: Clyper says it couldn't open the file. Change General access to Anyone with the link and paste the link again.
- Downloads off for viewers: Clyper downloads the file, so viewers have to be allowed to.
- A screen recording with no one talking: Clyper picks moments from what's said, so a silent demo gives it little to clip. One with a voice over it works.
Big files, long videos and Drive's download limit
From a link, Clyper takes files up to 10 GB, against 4 GB for an upload, and clips 4 hours at a time. It downloads the whole file before it starts, so a big one takes longer to get going; you can leave the page while it does. For a longer video, turn on Clip part of the video and clip it a part at a time: each part uses a credit a minute of itself, not of the whole file.
Drive's warning that a big file is too large to scan for viruses doesn't stop Clyper: it confirms the download, as you would. What can stop it is Drive's limit on busy files. When a file is viewed or downloaded a lot in a short time, Google shows “Too many users have viewed or downloaded this file recently,” and says the restriction typically resets within 24 hours. Clyper then tells you the host is limiting downloads: try again later, or upload the file instead.
Over 10 GB? Make it smaller with the free video compressor, or cut it into parts with the video splitter, which copies them without re-encoding. Both run in your browser, so the file isn't uploaded anywhere.
Meet recordings, client files and footage someone else shot
Google Meet saves recordings to the organizer's Drive, in the Google Meet folder. Share the recording itself, not the meeting's folder, with anyone who has the link, and paste it: no download. Where your Workspace doesn't allow links outside the organization, download the MP4 and upload it. The rest is in Google Meet recordings to clips.
A Drive link also saves passing big files around: a client or a colleague shares the file, you paste the link, and nobody downloads and uploads a few GB. It suits clipping agencies working from client footage, and marketing teams clipping webinars and talks someone else recorded. Clip only footage you own or have permission to use; see is clipping legal?
Once your clips are made, you can set General access back to Restricted. Clyper deletes its copy of the file when the job is done, and each clip keeps the stretch of video it needs, so your edits keep working.
What it costs
A credit is a minute of video, so a plan is how much video you can clip in a month, however many clips it makes. A one-hour video uses 60 credits and can give up to 30 clips, however big the file is.

Questions
Can I make clips from a Google Drive video?
Yes. Share the video so anyone with the link can view it, copy the link and paste it into Clyper. It downloads the file, finds the moments worth posting, frames whoever's talking and captions every word: up to 30 clips from an hour of video.
Why can't Clyper open my Google Drive link?
Usually because the file is shared as Restricted or with your organization only: change General access to Anyone with the link. A folder's link doesn't work either, so copy the video file's own link. And if the owner turned off downloading for viewers, turn it back on.
Can Clyper connect to my Google Drive?
No. Clyper doesn't sign in to Google Drive or watch your folders: it opens the one file each link opens, so paste a link for each video. Studio's bulk import takes YouTube links only.
What's the biggest file Clyper takes from Google Drive?
10 GB, against 4 GB for an upload. It clips up to 4 hours at a time, so a longer video goes in a part at a time, each using a credit a minute of itself.
Is it safe to share a video with anyone with the link?
Anyone who has the link can open the file, so only send the link where you mean to. Once your clips are made, set General access back to Restricted: your clips and edits keep working, since edits don't need the file again.
Do OneDrive, iCloud or WeTransfer links work?
No. Clyper opens YouTube, Twitch, Google Drive and Dropbox links. For a file anywhere else, download it and upload it (up to 4 GB), or put it in Google Drive or Dropbox and share it from there.
