How to get your recording out of Google Meet

Not every account can record. Meet records on the Google Workspace editions Business Standard and Plus, Essentials, Enterprise Starter, Standard, Plus, Essentials and Essentials Plus, Education Plus (for staff) and the Teaching and Learning Upgrade, and on Workspace Individual and Google One plans with 2 TB or more. A free Gmail account and Business Starter aren't on the list. At work, an admin also has to turn recording on. You record from a computer or an Android device.

  1. 1
Check who can record. The host can, by default. Others in the host's organization can too while Host management is off, and a guest from outside it only after being made a co-host. Breakout rooms can't be recorded, and neither can you if you joined only to present.
  2. 2
Start recording. On a computer, click Meeting tools at the bottom right, then Recording. To save captions with it, pick a language. Click Start recording, then Start. Everyone in the meeting is told it's being recorded.
  3. 3
Stop it. Click Meeting tools, Recording, then Stop recording, and confirm. It also stops when everyone leaves, and after 8 hours in all.
  4. 4
Find it in Drive. Recordings go to the meeting organizer's Google Drive, in the Google Meet folder, with a sub-folder for each meeting. The organizer and whoever started recording get an email with the link, and if recording began at the scheduled time, it's linked from the Calendar event. Older recordings are in Legacy Meet Recordings inside it: from July 2026, Meet renamed the old Meet Recordings folder and moved it there.
  5. 5
Download the MP4. On drive.google.com, right-click the recording and click Download, or select it and click More, Download. If Drive says “Still processing,” that's about playing it in Drive: Google suggests downloading it to play it straight away.
  6. 6
Not the organizer? Attendees get a shortcut to the recording in their Drive. When it's linked from the Calendar event, invited people in the organizer's organization can watch it (people invited through a group don't get access automatically). Since April 30, 2026, people in the organization who can view a new recording can download it too, unless the owner or an admin turned that off. If there's no Download, ask the organizer.

The recording shows the active speaker and anything presented, not your own view: pinning someone doesn't change who's recorded. With a screen shared, the resolution follows the largest screen shared, up to 1080p. Meet saves to Drive, so when there isn't enough Drive space it can't record.

How it works

  1. 1

    Upload the recording

The MP4 you downloaded from Drive, up to 4 GB and 4 hours. Clyper doesn't open Drive links.

  2. 2

    Get the clips

Clyper picks the moments that work on their own, cuts each on whole sentences, frames the speaker and captions it.

  3. 3

    Post them

Check each clip, fix a name if you need to, and download 1080 × 1920 MP4s with no watermark.

What you get

  • Made for active speakerMeet records whoever's talking, the shot a vertical clip wants. Clyper frames their face and follows it.
  • Switches with the meetingWhen the recording cuts to someone else, Clyper cuts with it and frames the new face.
  • Presentations, handledIf the speaker shows in a small box in a corner, the only face on screen, Clyper can put them on top with the middle of the screen below; a screen with no face keeps its middle.
  • Captions in 50+ languagesWord by word, in the language the meeting was held in.
  • Scored for the hookEach clip runs 20 to 60 seconds and gets a hook score, so you post the strongest first.
  • Edit before you postTrim to the word, extend either end by up to 15 seconds, or change the caption style: Pop on Starter, all 5 on Pro and Studio.

“Went from an hour per clip to under 2 minutes. Still can’t believe it.”

Record for clips: cameras, presenting and sound

A Meet recording follows the active speaker, and that suits a vertical clip. A few habits make it better:

  • Cameras on. A clip of a dark tile with a name in it has no one to frame.
  • Present only while the slides matter. A slide is wider than a phone, so Clyper keeps its middle and the edges go. Put the words that count in big type near the center, and stop presenting for the discussion.
  • Clear sound. Clyper picks moments by what's said, so a headset beats a laptop mic in a busy room. The free noise remover takes fans and hum out of a clip, and the video volume booster brings up a quiet one.

What to clip from a meeting

Clip the moments that make sense to someone who wasn't there: a clear answer to a question, a story, an explanation with a point. A transcript helps you find them; the free video to text converter makes one in your browser, and how to transcribe a video covers cleaning it up. For a webinar run on Meet, see webinars to clips, and for a posting plan, how to repurpose video content.

Recordings over 4 hours or 4 GB

Meet records up to 8 hours, and Clyper takes uploads up to 4 hours and 4 GB. Cut a longer recording into parts with the free video splitter, which copies them without re-encoding, and upload each. It can also cut off the minutes before everyone joined: a credit is a minute of video, so cutting them saves credits.

Meet tells everyone when a recording starts, and some admins make each person agree before it does. Posting a clip publicly is a separate ask: get the OK of everyone seen or heard in it, and check your organization's rules before posting anything from an internal meeting. Clip other people's meetings and videos only with their permission.

What it costs

A credit is a minute of video, so a plan is how much video you can clip in a month, however many clips it makes. A 30-minute meeting uses 30 credits and can give up to 15 clips.

  • Starter

    $20/mo

    150 minutes, about 75 clips

  • Pro

    $19/mo yearly

    400 minutes, about 200 clips

  • Studio

    $48/mo yearly

    1,000 minutes, about 500 clips

Also as 2× or 4×, for more of both

Questions

Can I make clips from a Google Meet recording?

Yes. Download the recording from the organizer's Google Drive and upload it to Clyper. It finds the moments that stand on their own, frames whoever's talking and captions every word, up to 30 clips per recording.

Where are Google Meet recordings saved?

In the meeting organizer's Google Drive, in the Google Meet folder, with a sub-folder for each meeting. Older ones are in Legacy Meet Recordings inside it. The organizer and whoever started recording also get an email with the link.

Why can't I record in Google Meet?

Usually because the organizer's Workspace edition doesn't include recording, an admin hasn't turned it on, or the host has Host management on and you aren't a host or co-host. You also can't record in a breakout room, from an iPhone or iPad, if you joined only to present, or when there isn't enough Drive space.

Can I record Google Meet with a free Gmail account?

Not on its own. A personal account can record with a Google One plan of 2 TB or more; otherwise you need an eligible Google Workspace edition.

Can Clyper open a Google Drive link?

No. Clyper takes uploads and YouTube links, not Drive links. Download the MP4 from Drive and upload it (MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV, up to 4 GB).

How long can a Google Meet recording be?

Up to 8 hours, then it stops on its own. Clyper takes up to 4 hours per upload, so split a longer one into parts first.
