How Clyper captions Turkish videos

There's no language to choose. For a YouTube link, Clyper takes the video's language from YouTube; for an upload, or when YouTube doesn't say, it hears it in the speech. If a YouTube video has dubbed audio tracks, Clyper uses the original one, so a Turkish video is captioned in Turkish, not in a dub.

The speech is transcribed word by word, with the moment each word starts and ends, and the video's title is used as a hint, so names in it come out right more often. Each clip's captions are built from those times: a few words at a time, with a new caption at the end of a sentence, at a comma and at a pause, so a caption never runs across two thoughts.

The captions are burned into the clip, so they look the same on TikTok, Reels and Shorts, with nothing to upload separately. More on styles, size and placement in how to caption short videos.

The dotted İ

Turkish has two letter i's: dotted i and İ, and dotless ı and I. Most software writes the capital of i as I, which in Turkish is a different letter, so kimse comes out KIMSE. Clyper capitalizes Turkish the Turkish way: KİMSE, İLK, İNANMADI, with the dotless ı becoming I as it should. Azerbaijani videos get the same capitals. ğ, ş, ç, ö and ü stay on in every style.

Long words made of suffixes

Turkish words grow with their suffixes: inanmadı, değiştirebilirsiniz. Pop caps a caption at 3 words and 15 characters, so a long word gets a caption of its own, shrunk to fit the frame if it needs to be, never cut off at the edge.

Every caption style, in Turkish

All 5 styles work in Turkish: switch between them on the preview above. Pop is on every plan, Starter included; Pro and Studio add the other 4, and styles of your own.

  • Pop: Three words at a time. The spoken word turns blue with a quick pop. Every plan.
  • Karaoke: The whole line stays up and fills with yellow as each word is said. Pro and Studio.
  • Highlight: The spoken word gets a bright yellow highlight. Pro and Studio.
  • One word: One big word at a time, popping in as it's said. Pro and Studio.
  • Plain: Calm subtitles in sentence case on a soft dark band, no animation. Pro and Studio.

Hook headlines in Turkish

On Pro and Studio, each clip opens with its hook as a headline in a box at the top for the first 4 seconds, like the one on the preview above. It's written in the video's language, so a Turkish clip opens with a Turkish headline. Reword or remove it on any clip in the editor, or switch headlines off for a video before you start it.

Questions

Why do Turkish captions need their own capital letters?

Because Turkish has a dotted İ and a dotless I. Clyper writes i as İ and ı as I in capitals, so KİMSE never comes out KIMSE.

Does Clyper caption Azerbaijani?

Yes, with the same dotted and dotless capitals as Turkish.

Do I have to set the language to Turkish?

No. Clyper takes the language from YouTube or hears it in the speech, and captions each clip in it. There's no setting.

Can I fix a word in the Turkish captions?

Yes. In the clip editor, correct any word, a name or a misheard word, and the preview shows the change before you download.

Can Clyper translate Turkish captions into English?

No. Captions are in the language spoken in the video, so a Turkish video gets Turkish captions, and an English video English ones.

Which plans caption Turkish videos?

Every plan. Starter clips use Pop; Pro and Studio add the other 4 styles, styles of your own and hook headlines.
