How One word moves

Each word gets the screen to itself, in white capitals with a heavy black outline, bigger than any other style (250 against Pop's 200). It pops in a quarter bigger and settles to full size in under a tenth of a second, then gives way to the next word as it's said. A word too wide for the frame is shrunk to fit.

In scripts without spaces, like Japanese and Chinese, a caption holds up to 3 characters instead of one word.

When to use One word

  • Hype and high-energy clips: reactions, gaming, sports talk.
  • Short, slow, punchy lines, where every word lands on its own.
  • Languages with long words, like German, where three words to a caption don't fit.

One thing to know

With very fast talkers, a word may be on screen for only a fraction of a second, and the clip can feel like it flickers. For those, Pop or Karaoke, which show a few words at a time, are easier to follow. Switch styles on any clip in the editor and see before you download.

Make One word your own

On Pro and Studio, save up to 10 caption styles of your own: start from any of the 5, then choose the font (Poppins, Montserrat, Anton, Bebas Neue, Archivo Black or Bangers), the colors, the size and how high the captions sit. They show beside the built-in styles when you start a video or edit a clip.

Your styles carry your font into every language with letters it has; for other scripts, the captions fall back to the matching Noto Sans font, so nothing turns into empty boxes.

Questions

Is One word good for fast talkers?

It can flicker with very fast speech, since each word gets the screen to itself. Pop or Karaoke show a few words at a time and are easier to read then.

Which plans include One word?

Pro and Studio, with the other styles and styles of your own. Starter clips use Pop.

Does One word work in every language?

Yes. One word captions every language Clyper does, 50+ of them, each in a font made for its script, from Spanish to Japanese to Arabic.

Can I switch a clip to another style?

Yes, in the clip editor, with the preview showing the change before you download. On Starter, clips use Pop; Pro and Studio can switch between all 5.

Are the captions burned into the video?

Yes. They're part of the clip, so they show on every app exactly as you chose them, with nothing to upload separately.
