How Clyper captions Korean videos

There's no language to choose. For a YouTube link, Clyper takes the video's language from YouTube; for an upload, or when YouTube doesn't say, it hears it in the speech. If a YouTube video has dubbed audio tracks, Clyper uses the original one, so a Korean video is captioned in Korean, not in a dub.

The speech is transcribed word by word, with the moment each word starts and ends, and the video's title is used as a hint, so names in it come out right more often. Each clip's captions are built from those times: a few words at a time, with a new caption at the end of a sentence, at a comma and at a pause, so a caption never runs across two thoughts.

The captions are burned into the clip, so they look the same on TikTok, Reels and Shorts, with nothing to upload separately. More on styles, size and placement in how to caption short videos.

Spaced words, wide syllables

Korean puts spaces between words, so its captions are counted in words, as English ones are: up to 3 at a time in Pop. Each Hangul syllable is as wide as a full character, so the width of the frame also decides how much fits: a caption with long words holds two of them, not three. A comma or the end of a sentence starts a new caption, so 솔직히 말하면 is one, and 처음엔 아무도 저를 the next.

A font made for Hangul

Poppins has no Hangul, so Korean captions are drawn in Noto Sans KR Bold, heavy enough to read over any video. Latin words in a Korean clip are drawn in the same font, so the line doesn't switch halfway through. The font is a few MB, which is why the preview on this page waits for you to ask for it. Your clips don't wait: the font is part of the render.

Every caption style, in Korean

All 5 styles work in Korean: switch between them on the preview above. Pop is on every plan, Starter included; Pro and Studio add the other 4, and styles of your own.

  • Pop: Three words at a time. The spoken word turns blue with a quick pop. Every plan.
  • Karaoke: The whole line stays up and fills with yellow as each word is said. Pro and Studio.
  • Highlight: The spoken word gets a bright yellow highlight. Pro and Studio.
  • One word: One big word at a time, popping in as it's said. Pro and Studio.
  • Plain: Calm subtitles in sentence case on a soft dark band, no animation. Pro and Studio.

Hook headlines in Korean

On Pro and Studio, each clip opens with its hook as a headline in a box at the top for the first 4 seconds, like the one on the preview above. It's written in the video's language, so a Korean clip opens with a Korean headline. Reword or remove it on any clip in the editor, or switch headlines off for a video before you start it.

Captions in other languages

  • Pro

    $19/mo yearly

    400 minutes, about 200 clips

    1,000 minutes, about 500 clips

Also as 2× or 4×, for more of both

Questions

Which font do Korean captions use?

Noto Sans KR Bold, made for Hangul. Latin words in the same clip are drawn in it too.

Does Clyper keep Korean word spacing?

Yes. Words are spaced as the transcript writes them, and a new caption starts at a space, a comma or the end of a sentence.

Do I have to set the language to Korean?

No. Clyper takes the language from YouTube or hears it in the speech, and captions each clip in it. There's no setting.

Can I fix a word in the Korean captions?

Yes. In the clip editor, correct any word, a name or a misheard word, and the preview shows the change before you download.

Can Clyper translate Korean captions into English?

No. Captions are in the language spoken in the video, so a Korean video gets Korean captions, and an English video English ones.

Which plans caption Korean videos?

Every plan. Starter clips use Pop; Pro and Studio add the other 4 styles, styles of your own and hook headlines.
