Hom Nurkil, solo creator · 90 sec/clipHow Clyper captions Portuguese videos
There's no language to choose. For a YouTube link, Clyper takes the video's language from YouTube; for an upload, or when YouTube doesn't say, it hears it in the speech. If a YouTube video has dubbed audio tracks, Clyper uses the original one, so a Portuguese video is captioned in Portuguese, not in a dub.
The speech is transcribed word by word, with the moment each word starts and ends, and the video's title is used as a hint, so names in it come out right more often. Each clip's captions are built from those times: a few words at a time, with a new caption at the end of a sentence, at a comma and at a pause, so a caption never runs across two thoughts.
The captions are burned into the clip, so they look the same on TikTok, Reels and Shorts, with nothing to upload separately. More on styles, size and placement in how to caption short videos.
Tildes and cedillas in capitals
Portuguese leans on its marks: não, milhão, você, coração, fácil. In the styles written in capitals they all stay on: NÃO, MILHÃO, DIFÍCIL, never NAO or DIFICIL. A caption without them looks like a typo to a Portuguese speaker, and some words change meaning without them (pais and país, avó and avô).
Plain keeps the line in sentence case, for interviews and talks where capitals would feel loud.
Brazil or Portugal, captioned as said
Clyper transcribes the Portuguese it hears and doesn't swap one country's words for the other's. A podcast from São Paulo gets its own words on screen, an interview from Lisbon its own. If a name or a slang word comes out wrong, fix it in the editor before you download: the preview shows the change at once.
Every caption style, in Portuguese
All 5 styles work in Portuguese: switch between them on the preview above. Pop is on every plan, Starter included; Pro and Studio add the other 4, and styles of your own.
- Pop: Three words at a time. The spoken word turns blue with a quick pop. Every plan.
- Karaoke: The whole line stays up and fills with yellow as each word is said. Pro and Studio.
- Highlight: The spoken word gets a bright yellow highlight. Pro and Studio.
- One word: One big word at a time, popping in as it's said. Pro and Studio.
- Plain: Calm subtitles in sentence case on a soft dark band, no animation. Pro and Studio.
Hook headlines in Portuguese
On Pro and Studio, each clip opens with its hook as a headline in a box at the top for the first 4 seconds, like the one on the preview above. It's written in the video's language, so a Portuguese clip opens with a Portuguese headline. Reword or remove it on any clip in the editor, or switch headlines off for a video before you start it.

Questions
Does Clyper caption Brazilian Portuguese?
Yes, and European Portuguese too. Each is captioned as spoken, with no setting to choose.
Are Portuguese accents kept in capital letters?
Yes. ã, õ, ç, é, ê, á, í, ó and ú all keep their marks in the capital-letter styles.
Do I have to set the language to Portuguese?
No. Clyper takes the language from YouTube or hears it in the speech, and captions each clip in it. There's no setting.
Can I fix a word in the Portuguese captions?
Yes. In the clip editor, correct any word, a name or a misheard word, and the preview shows the change before you download.
Can Clyper translate Portuguese captions into English?
No. Captions are in the language spoken in the video, so a Portuguese video gets Portuguese captions, and an English video English ones.
Which plans caption Portuguese videos?
Every plan. Starter clips use Pop; Pro and Studio add the other 4 styles, styles of your own and hook headlines.
