How Clyper captions Italian videos

There's no language to choose. For a YouTube link, Clyper takes the video's language from YouTube; for an upload, or when YouTube doesn't say, it hears it in the speech. If a YouTube video has dubbed audio tracks, Clyper uses the original one, so a Italian video is captioned in Italian, not in a dub.

The speech is transcribed word by word, with the moment each word starts and ends, and the video's title is used as a hint, so names in it come out right more often. Each clip's captions are built from those times: a few words at a time, with a new caption at the end of a sentence, at a comma and at a pause, so a caption never runs across two thoughts.

The captions are burned into the clip, so they look the same on TikTok, Reels and Shorts, with nothing to upload separately. More on styles, size and placement in how to caption short videos.

È is not E

In Italian the accent changes the word: è (is) and e (and), più, perché, città. In the styles written in capitals Clyper keeps the accented capital: È STATA LA, SCELTA PIÙ, never E' or PIU. Apostrophes stay inside the word, so l'idea and c'è stay one word on one caption. Plain keeps the line in sentence case.

Long words, short captions

Italian words run long: sinceramente, difficile, assolutamente. Pop caps a caption at 3 words and 15 characters, so a word like SINCERAMENTE often gets a caption to itself and the line stays easy to read at a glance. A word wider than the frame is shrunk to fit, never cut off.

Every caption style, in Italian

All 5 styles work in Italian: switch between them on the preview above. Pop is on every plan, Starter included; Pro and Studio add the other 4, and styles of your own.

  • Pop: Three words at a time. The spoken word turns blue with a quick pop. Every plan.
  • Karaoke: The whole line stays up and fills with yellow as each word is said. Pro and Studio.
  • Highlight: The spoken word gets a bright yellow highlight. Pro and Studio.
  • One word: One big word at a time, popping in as it's said. Pro and Studio.
  • Plain: Calm subtitles in sentence case on a soft dark band, no animation. Pro and Studio.

Hook headlines in Italian

On Pro and Studio, each clip opens with its hook as a headline in a box at the top for the first 4 seconds, like the one on the preview above. It's written in the video's language, so a Italian clip opens with a Italian headline. Reword or remove it on any clip in the editor, or switch headlines off for a video before you start it.

Questions

Does Clyper keep È in capital letters?

Yes. È, À, Ì, Ò, Ù and É stay accented in every capital-letter style.

Why does an Italian word sometimes get a caption of its own?

Each caption holds up to 3 words and 15 characters in Pop, so a long word, or one that ends a sentence, stands alone. It keeps every caption readable in a glance.

Do I have to set the language to Italian?

No. Clyper takes the language from YouTube or hears it in the speech, and captions each clip in it. There's no setting.

Can I fix a word in the Italian captions?

Yes. In the clip editor, correct any word, a name or a misheard word, and the preview shows the change before you download.

Can Clyper translate Italian captions into English?

No. Captions are in the language spoken in the video, so a Italian video gets Italian captions, and an English video English ones.

Which plans caption Italian videos?

Every plan. Starter clips use Pop; Pro and Studio add the other 4 styles, styles of your own and hook headlines.
