How Clyper captions Hindi videos

There's no language to choose. For a YouTube link, Clyper takes the video's language from YouTube; for an upload, or when YouTube doesn't say, it hears it in the speech. If a YouTube video has dubbed audio tracks, Clyper uses the original one, so a Hindi video is captioned in Hindi, not in a dub.

The speech is transcribed word by word, with the moment each word starts and ends, and the video's title is used as a hint, so names in it come out right more often. Each clip's captions are built from those times: a few words at a time, with a new caption at the end of a sentence, at a comma and at a pause, so a caption never runs across two thoughts.

The captions are burned into the clip, so they look the same on TikTok, Reels and Shorts, with nothing to upload separately. More on styles, size and placement in how to caption short videos.

Devanagari, shaped right

Poppins was drawn for both Latin and Devanagari, so Hindi captions get the same heavy weight as English ones, not a thin fallback font. The text is shaped as it's drawn: vowel signs sit where they belong and conjuncts join, as in प्लान and ज़िंदगी, instead of falling apart into separate letters.

A new caption starts at the end of each sentence, whether it ends with a full stop or a । (purna viram), and at each comma. Question and exclamation marks stay on the caption.

Marathi, Bengali, Tamil and the rest

Marathi and Nepali are written in Devanagari too, in Poppins. Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati and Punjabi (in Gurmukhi) each get a matching bold Noto Sans font for their script, and Clyper picks it from the letters in the transcript, with nothing to set.

Every caption style, in Hindi

All 5 styles work in Hindi: switch between them on the preview above. Pop is on every plan, Starter included; Pro and Studio add the other 4, and styles of your own.

  • Pop: Three words at a time. The spoken word turns blue with a quick pop. Every plan.
  • Karaoke: The whole line stays up and fills with yellow as each word is said. Pro and Studio.
  • Highlight: The spoken word gets a bright yellow highlight. Pro and Studio.
  • One word: One big word at a time, popping in as it's said. Pro and Studio.
  • Plain: Calm subtitles in sentence case on a soft dark band, no animation. Pro and Studio.

Hook headlines in Hindi

On Pro and Studio, each clip opens with its hook as a headline in a box at the top for the first 4 seconds, like the one on the preview above. It's written in the video's language, so a Hindi clip opens with a Hindi headline. Reword or remove it on any clip in the editor, or switch headlines off for a video before you start it.

Questions

Does Clyper caption Hindi in Devanagari or in Latin letters?

Hindi is captioned in Devanagari. An English word said in the middle of a Hindi sentence may come out in either script, as the transcript hears it; change any in the editor.

Does Clyper caption Bengali, Tamil or Telugu?

Yes, each in a bold Noto Sans font made for its script, picked automatically.

Do I have to set the language to Hindi?

No. Clyper takes the language from YouTube or hears it in the speech, and captions each clip in it. There's no setting.

Can I fix a word in the Hindi captions?

Yes. In the clip editor, correct any word, a name or a misheard word, and the preview shows the change before you download.

Can Clyper translate Hindi captions into English?

No. Captions are in the language spoken in the video, so a Hindi video gets Hindi captions, and an English video English ones.

Which plans caption Hindi videos?

Every plan. Starter clips use Pop; Pro and Studio add the other 4 styles, styles of your own and hook headlines.
