Get startedClipping agency, defined
A clipping agency is a business that handles short-form clips for creators and brands. Some cut, caption and deliver clips from a client's long videos every week, or run the client's TikTok, Reels and Shorts accounts. Others run a creator's clipping campaign: they write the brief, recruit clippers, review their clips and pay them out of the creator's budget.
The two kinds of clipping agency
| Clipping service agency | Campaign agency | |
|---|---|---|
| Paid by | The creator or brand: a monthly retainer, per clip or per package | The creator or brand, who also funds the clippers' budget |
| Delivers | Finished clips, or posted clips and reports | Views across many clippers' accounts |
| Clips are posted on | The client's own accounts | The clippers' own accounts |
| Who picks the moments | The agency's editors | Each clipper, inside the brief |
| Grows by | More clients and faster clipping | More campaigns and a bigger clipper network |
Service agencies are where many clippers go next: the same skill, sold as steady monthly income instead of views. Campaign agencies, such as Reach and Clip Farm, list their creators' campaigns on marketplaces like Content Rewards and announce them in their own Discord servers; they're compared with the marketplaces in clipping platforms. Content Rewards' terms let a campaign pay per view, per approved post or as a retainer, so a campaign can also be how an agency pays its own regular clippers.
What a clipping service agency does each week
- Collects the long videos: every episode, stream or webinar the client publishes, as it goes live.
- Finds the moments that stand on their own, the part that takes the most time and judgment.
- Cuts and frames each clip vertically on whoever's talking, with a streamer's webcam stacked over the game.
- Captions it in the client's look: their fonts and colors, the same on every clip, saved as a brand kit.
- Delivers or posts: a folder of clips with suggested captions, or clips scheduled on the client's accounts, with a report on what did well.
An agency's margin is the gap between its price and its time per clip, so the work that scales is steps 2 to 4. That's where AI clipping tools come in: the agency keeps the judgment (which clips to post, what to fix) and hands over the searching and cutting. How to land the first clients and run the workflow is in how to start a clipping agency.
How clipping agencies charge
- Monthly retainers for a set number of clips, sold in packages of, say, 30, 60 and 120 clips a month. The most common model, and the easiest to deliver.
- Account management: a higher monthly fee to post, schedule and report on the client's short-form accounts.
- Bonuses for results, once there are results to show: an extra fee for clips past a set number of views.
- Campaign management: a fee, or a share, on top of the clippers' budget, for running a creator's campaign.
What to charge depends on your time, your costs and the margin you want. How much to charge for clipping works through each package with real costs, and the free clipping rate calculator gives the lowest price per clip that still pays you.
Questions
What does a clipping agency do?
It turns creators' and brands' long videos into short vertical clips every week, cut, captioned and delivered or posted to their accounts, for a monthly fee. Some agencies also run creators' clipping campaigns and the clippers who post for them.
How do clipping agencies make money?
Mostly from monthly retainers for a set number of clips. Many add account management, bonuses for clips that pass a view target, or a fee for running a client's clipping campaign. The margin is the price minus the time each clip takes.
How do I start a clipping agency?
Pick a niche, list creators who post long videos but few clips, make each a few free sample clips from their own latest video, and offer a monthly package. One or two clients are enough to start; a fast workflow is what lets you take on more.
Is a clipping agency the same as a clipping platform?
No. A clipping platform, like Content Rewards, Vyro or Clipster, is the marketplace where campaigns are listed, views are counted and clippers are paid. An agency works for creators: it may list their campaigns on a platform, or skip campaigns and clip for them directly.
Which Clyper plan is made for agencies?
Studio: it adds bulk import, up to 10 YouTube links at once, and priority processing, along with the brand kit and every caption style that Pro has.
