How to make money streaming in 2026: Twitch, Kick, YouTube and TikTok

Streamers make money from subscriptions, tips and gifts (Bits, KICKs, Super Chat, TikTok LIVE Gifts), a share of ads, platform programs like Kick's per-stream Partner pay, and money they bring in themselves: sponsors, affiliate links, tip pages and merch. Here's how to make money streaming on Twitch, Kick, YouTube Live and TikTok LIVE in 2026: what each way pays, what it takes to unlock, a side-by-side table, and how clips grow the audience that pays for all of it.

In short

  • Subs are the steadiest money. Twitch gives you 50% of a sub (about $3.00 of a $5.99 US Tier 1, up to 70% in the Plus Program), Kick 95% of a flat $5 ($4.75), and YouTube 70% of channel memberships.
  • Tips and gifts: a Bit pays 1 cent, KICKs pay 95% of their value, Super Chat and Super Stickers 70%, and YouTube gifts $0.01 per Ruby. TikTok LIVE Gifts turn into Diamonds, and TikTok doesn't publish what one pays.
  • Ads: Twitch shares 55% if you run 3 minutes of ads an hour, and YouTube 55% of its ads. Kick's ads pay streamers nothing extra, but its Partner Program pays for every stream.
  • What unlocks it: Twitch Affiliate at 25 followers and 3 average viewers; Kick subs after 5 hours streamed; YouTube's fan funding at 500 subscribers in the Partner Program; TikTok LIVE Gifts at 18.
  • Sponsors, affiliate links, tips and merch work on any platform, some from your first stream. All of it grows with your audience, and clips on TikTok, Shorts and Reels are how new viewers find you.

How do streamers make money? Every way at a glance

Streaming income comes in five kinds, and most streamers who earn a living mix several of them:

  • Subscriptions and memberships: viewers pay monthly, and the platform splits it with you.
  • Tips and gifts: one-off payments during a stream, like Bits, KICKs, Super Chat and gifts bought with each app's own currency.
  • Ads: a share of what advertisers pay for the ads your viewers see.
  • Platform programs: money from the platform itself, like Kick's Partner pay per stream, or sponsorships Twitch arranges.
  • Money you bring in yourself: sponsors, affiliate links, a tip page and merch, which work wherever you stream.

“Net” means after taxes and processing fees, so a share is a little less than it sounds. Twitch lowers sub prices in many countries, Kick's $5 is the same everywhere, and you set your own prices for YouTube memberships in YouTube Studio. Each platform is below, with links to the guides that go deeper.

How to make money streaming on Twitch

  • Subs: 50% of a sub's net revenue, about $3.00 of a $5.99 US Tier 1 sub before taxes and fees. The Plus Program raises it to 60% or 70% ($4.19) for streamers with enough recurring paid subs. A Prime sub pays a fixed $2.25 in the US, and gift subs pay like any sub of their tier.
  • Bits: viewers Cheer with them in chat, and Twitch pays you 1 cent per Bit: 100 Bits are $1.
  • Ads: 55% of net ad revenue if you run at least 3 minutes of mid-roll ads an hour. Twitch doesn't publish what an ad pays.
  • Sponsorships: brand campaigns Twitch arranges, open to Partners and, since August 20, 2026, to Affiliates who are Creator Sponsorship Certified.

What it takes. Since Twitch's Monetization for All rollout, anyone who accepts the Monetized Streamer Agreement can turn on subs and Bits, but only Affiliates and Partners are paid out; everyone else's earnings sit in a Spendable Balance they can only spend on Twitch. Affiliate takes 25 followers, 4 hours streamed on 4 different days and an average of 3 viewers on 4 days, all in 30 days. Partner takes 6 streams averaging 75 viewers in each of two 30-day periods, then an application. Twitch pays monthly once you're owed $50.

The full numbers are in how much Twitch pays, the steps to Affiliate in how to become a Twitch Affiliate, and you can run your own subs, Bits and viewers through the free Twitch money calculator.

How to make money streaming on Kick

  • Subs: $5 a month in every country, and you keep 95%, so $4.75 a sub, gifted or not. Subs switch on after 5 hours streamed in total, with two-factor authentication and a Stripe account in a supported country.
  • KICKs: Kick's tipping currency. Viewers send them in chat, and you keep 95% of their value once you've reached Streamer status and set up Stripe.
  • The Kick Partner Program: pay for every stream, worked out from your average audience over your recent streams, plus factors like language and region. Kick publishes no rate. It takes a verified channel, 75 average viewers, 30 hours streamed, 25 active subs, 250 unique chatters and 3 VODs in 30 days, and 250 followers, then an application.
  • Ads: Kick began running ads in August 2026 and says they don't pay streamers directly: Partners are paid through the Partner Program.

One catch: Partners who multistream to Twitch or YouTube earn 50% of their usual Partner pay while it's on. The details, from verification to payouts, are in how much Kick pays.

How to make money streaming on YouTube Live

Everything on YouTube goes through the YouTube Partner Program, which has two levels. With 500 subscribers, 3 public uploads in 90 days, and 3,000 watch hours in 12 months or 3 million Shorts views in 90 days, you can join for fan funding. Ad revenue needs 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours or 10 million Shorts views. The steps are in how to get monetized on YouTube.

  • Super Chat and Super Stickers: viewers pay to highlight a message or send an animated sticker in live chat. You get 70% of net revenue. They don't work on unlisted, private, age-restricted or made-for-kids streams, or with live chat off.
  • Channel memberships: monthly perks like badges and emoji, at a price you choose, also at 70% of net.
  • Gifts: viewers buy Jewels and send gifts that show on screen, on vertical and horizontal live streams. Every 2 Jewels spent on gifts earn you one Ruby, and YouTube pays $0.01 per Ruby. Turn them on in YouTube Studio under Earn, Supers & gifts, by accepting the Virtual Items module.
  • Ads: with monetization on for the stream, pre-roll and display ads run on their own. Mid-rolls can be placed by YouTube at natural breaks (its recommendation), on a schedule every 6 to 30 minutes, or by you. YouTube pays 55% of the net ad revenue on your videos.

Fan funding needs you to be 18 or older and in a country where each feature is offered. The stream keeps earning after you end it, too: YouTube archives a stream under 12 hours as a video, which people can keep finding in search. And once you're in the Partner Program, YouTube Shopping lets you tag products, your own merch or affiliate ones, in live streams.

How to make money on TikTok LIVE (and Instagram Live)

TikTok raised the age to host a LIVE from 16 to 18 on November 23, 2022. Its other LIVE requirements are in its help center, which doesn't load for us, so what's here is from TikTok's newsroom and its pages for LIVE creators:

  • LIVE Gifts: viewers buy Coins and send Gifts, which appear on screen, and you collect Diamonds from them. To collect them you must be 18 or older (19 in South Korea), in a place where gifts are offered, able to go LIVE and in good standing. TikTok says creators “may be eligible to receive rewards” under its policies, but its pages don't say what a Diamond is worth, so check the rewards screen in the app before you count on a number.
  • Subscription: a monthly fee in 3 tiers you customize, for perks like subscriber-only LIVEs, badges and Discord roles. It needs you to be 18 or older, with 10,000 followers and 100,000 video views in the past month, or to meet TikTok's LIVE requirements.
  • TikTok Shop: its affiliate program pays creators a commission on products tagged in their videos and LIVEs, where TikTok Shop runs.
  • LIVE Creator Networks: agencies TikTok partners with to recruit and manage LIVE creators, with access to its incentive programs. If one approaches you, read the contract before you sign.

Instagram Live pays through badges: viewers buy them during your live, up to $250 per supporter per live, from 10,000 followers on a professional account at 18 or older. The rest of what TikTok pays, from Creator Rewards to brand deals, is in how much TikTok pays.

Sponsors, affiliate links, tips and merch

These don't depend on a platform's program, so they work wherever you stream, and some from your very first stream. What each takes:

Money streamers bring in themselves: how it pays and what it takes
WayHow it paysWhat it takes
SponsorsA fee per stream, segment or campaign, agreed with the brandNo set minimum, but brands pay for an audience. Twitch runs sponsorships for Partners and certified Affiliates; Kick's Partnerships screen builds a media kit from your stats
Affiliate linksA commission on what people buy through your linkA program that accepts you. YouTube Shopping's affiliate program needs the Partner Program and one of its countries; TikTok Shop has its own
TipsViewers pay you directlyA tip page linked from your channel. Streamlabs says it takes no cut of tips, apart from card processing fees
MerchYour margin on each item soldA store. On YouTube, Shopping can show your own products under your videos and streams once you're in the Partner Program
  • Say when you're paid. The FTC says to disclose anything of value you got to mention a product, and that in a live stream the disclosure should be repeated periodically, so people who only see part of it get it. For affiliate links, it says “affiliate link” alone isn't clear; something like “I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post” is.
  • “Twitch Affiliate” isn't affiliate marketing. It's Twitch's first paid level, above. Affiliate links are a separate thing you can add at any level.
  • Have your numbers ready. Expect a brand to ask about your average viewers, how often you stream and your audience elsewhere (followers, clip views), so the growth section below is part of getting sponsors too.

How to start making money streaming with a small audience

Most of the money above unlocks with your audience. In the order it usually comes:

  1. From your first stream: a tip page and disclosed affiliate links in your panels and descriptions. On Kick, subs after 5 hours streamed. On Twitch, subs and Bits once you accept the Monetized Streamer Agreement, as Spendable Balance until you're an Affiliate.
  2. Twitch Affiliate at 25 followers and 3 average viewers, when that money starts paying out in cash, with ads at 55%.
  3. YouTube's fan funding at 500 subscribers: Super Chat, memberships and gifts. Public streams you keep on your channel count toward the watch hours.
  4. The bigger programs: Twitch Partner and Kick's Partner Program at 75 average viewers, and YouTube's ad revenue at 1,000 subscribers.
  5. Sponsors, once you stream on a schedule to a steady audience, with a media kit to show for it.

Which platform pays most depends on the line you look at. Per sub, Kick's $4.75 beats Twitch's $3.00 on the standard split ($4.19 at 70%); per tip, KICKs' 95% beats Super Chat's 70%. But the biggest number is how many people watch, and that depends on where viewers find you: Twitch is built around browsing live channels, YouTube keeps your streams findable in search, and Kick has the lowest bar to subs. Picking one is in how to start streaming.

Clips grow the audience that pays

Every line in the tables above grows with viewers. A live stream mostly reaches people who already follow you. A short clip of it on TikTok, YouTube Shorts or Reels reaches people who don't, because those feeds show videos by what people watch, not who they follow. A play, a reaction or a story, with your name on it, is a sample of the stream, and some of the people who see it come to the next one.

  • Clip every stream, not just the big ones. Which moments work, and how to lay out the webcam and the game for a phone, is in how to clip streams.
  • Put the full stream on YouTube too. It keeps being found after Twitch deletes it, and a monetized channel earns 55% of its ads. See how to upload Twitch streams to YouTube.
  • Clips can earn on their own. In the Partner Program, YouTube shares 45% of the Shorts ad revenue given to your views, and TikTok's Creator Rewards pays for original videos a minute or longer.
  • Or pay clippers. Many streamers pay clippers per view to post clips for them: see how to hire a clipper.

By hand, clipping means watching hours of stream again for the moments, then cutting, laying out and captioning each one. Clyper does that from the replay. Upload the VOD (MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV, up to 4 GB and 4 hours) or paste the YouTube link of a saved stream. It finds the best moments and cuts each to whole sentences, stacks your webcam over the game (the top 1080 × 608), frames you alone in just chatting, captions every word and scores each clip's hook: up to 30 clips per stream, as 1080 × 1920 MP4s with no watermark. More in stream clips with Clyper.

Questions

How do streamers make money?

From subscriptions, tips and gifts (Bits, KICKs, Super Chat, TikTok LIVE Gifts), a share of the ads on their streams, platform programs like Kick's Partner pay, and money they bring in themselves: sponsors, affiliate links, tip pages and merch. Most mix several.

How much do streamers make per sub?

On Twitch, 50% of the sub's net revenue: about $3.00 of a $5.99 US Tier 1 sub, up to $4.19 in the Plus Program. On Kick, $4.75 of a flat $5 sub. On YouTube, 70% of the membership price you set.

How many followers do you need to make money streaming?

On Twitch, 25 followers (with 3 average viewers) to be paid out as an Affiliate. Kick has no follower bar for subs, only 5 hours streamed. YouTube's fan funding needs 500 subscribers, and Instagram's live badges 10,000 followers.

Can you make money streaming with no viewers?

A little. A tip page and affiliate links work from your first stream, and Kick turns on subs after 5 hours streamed. But subs, tips and sponsors all come from viewers, so the first job is getting some: clips of your streams on TikTok, Shorts and Reels are the usual way.

Which streaming platform pays the most?

Per sub, Kick: $4.75 against Twitch's $3.00 on the standard split. Per tip, KICKs pay 95% and Super Chat 70%. Twitch and YouTube share ads; Kick pays Partners per stream instead. What matters most is where viewers find you and stay.

Do you get paid for TikTok LIVE?

Through LIVE Gifts, which viewers send with Coins and you collect as Diamonds, at 18 or older (19 in South Korea), and through Subscription. TikTok doesn't publish what a Diamond is worth; your rewards show in the app.
